Went to Kells road racing last week. What a great day out, apart from the weather. These are real men hurtling down the narrow wet roads at 200 kph and braking into a 90 degree corner. No injuries nor fatalities TG. It was so cold I had to buy a beanie. In the middle of the Irish summer dressed in padded bike jacket and padded jeans. Got a great photo of Michael Dunlop http://www.flickr.com/photos/50459545@N02/5955595567/ Edited by muller |

Great win for Ireland against Austalia - against all the odds, beating the Tri Nations Champions in the southern hemisphere. Well done to all!

Can I ask a genuine question to Gary and to Finno, our resident Rugby afficianados on here.
Yiz know that I don't like Rugby, that much is a given but I did get up in the middle of the night to watch the Wales game and I am sorry to say that my opinion hasn't changed much.
What I want to know is this.................
We're 12 points behind with fifteen minutes to go. Every time your man Sexton gets the ball he proceeds to kick it straight back into the Welsh half of the pitch almost invariably straight to one of their players. Surely if we need two tries we should be trying to keep possession.
Anyone got a credible explanation 'cos it sure beats the hell out of me !

Rolo, you've been spoilt this year with the Dubs. Not everything turns to gold Personally, I watched the Ireland v Wales game as well and it was obvious to me from an early stage that we were going to be beaten, regardless of what tactics we employed. And having our former coach now in charge of Wales didn't help either |

I played a bit of rugby on school as PE - being in Paul's we didn't get a choice. Never played competitivestuff, but would coulnt myself as knowing the basics.
Wouldn't be a huge fan - have caught some of the highlights, but generally use the few brownie points I have for other sports. Watched Aussies v New Zealand today and the refereeing I don't envy. Surely they can spot a crooked in into scrum and lineout though? I cannot make head nor tail of who is doing what in the scrum or in the breakdown. Seems to me like everybody is cheating in both and the ref just takes a stab in the dark? The only thing I have ever read that explained anything about the arts of the front row was Brian Moore's autobiography or maybe it was JAson Leonard's (I think he was explaining the difference between loosehead and tight head and what they tried to do to each other). But they were both pretty scathing about refereeing of the front row - basically reckoned that most of the refs didn't understand things and the rulemakers were not helping. First half though - the All Blacks were astonishing. Some of the catches from the winger were worthy of Croker. The breaks from the 10 and 15 - awesome. Second half was scrappier, but first half was serious stuff. They are a serious outfit - their team in 1995 deserve to win in South Africa, but I hope this lot win it. Still remember some of those guys from 95 - Kronfeld even brought the scrumcap back into fashion..... |

I'm searching for that cash I should have saved for the crash

Just watched a classic game of rugby. Munster 23 Northampton 21. O'Gara with a drop goal after 41 phases of play. Amazing stuff. |
