Congrats to Ireland's U20 womens relay team.
Silver medal in final.
May be going to hell in a bucket but at least I'm enjoying the ride.

Yes, nicely done. Good crop of young kids coming up it seems.

My best pal, that I was out with last night, lived round the corner from us in st. Anne's - his dad (RIP) was a, if not the, founder of Raheny Shamrocks athletic club. So Joe was huge into athletics etc, therefore we got into the whole thing as well. Always having races, hop, skip, and jump competitions etc, on the road. I've kinda lost a lot of interest over the years, but still keep half an eye to performances of Irish athletes etc...

Tour de France is the best tourist ad for France ever Frank. Incredible countryside, I've only ever been to Paris a few times, would like to see more of the countryside there...

Frank.

Amazing photo.

That comes up on a quiz I do online and I knew it was in France, after guessing wrong a number of times, but never knew where.

Thanks Frank.

Fully agree Pat, spectacular achievement. I know nothing about hockey I have to confess, but getting to the World Cup final in any genuine sporting event is a huge achievement. Well done indeed ...

I played hockey for Aer Lingus back in the day.
I can tell you it's a tough sport and you need to be really fit.

I was a goalkeeper.

I can just imagine Pat.

Now that I think of it, there was a colleague of mine in work - a really sound guy - Tony Corcoran - he lived around Drumcondra area I think. He was big into the hockey, and used to play for (or at least train with ) some hockey team. Your paths may have crossed at some stage ...

RR. Not familiar with a Tony Corcoran in hockey circles.

Did know a Tony Corcoran in Celtic Park where I lived growing up whose family moved to Drumcondra area near the old Lemons sweet factory.

Wonder is it's the same guy?

Hmmmmm ... couldn't be sure Pat. "my" Tony would be around our age, medium height, kinda stocky, dark hair. Now thats my description from over 20 years ago, could look somewhat different now! He lived around Drumcondra, used to drink in Fagan's the odd time ... got married a bit later than some of us - maybe late-30s or into his 40's ...

It's possible it's the guy you know I suppose ... Small world and all that ...

Ireland lost 0-6 to the Netherlands in the women's hockey World Cup final.

No disgrace in that at all.

Reaching the final was an amazing experience and achievement in itself.

As mentioned above I played hockey with Aer Lingus and I know from people who went on tournaments to the Netherlands that that country are a serious hockey nation.

So don't be despondent Ireland, you have done us proud.

And you managed to elevate the great sport of hockey onto our tv screens.

May be going to hell in a bucket but at least I'm enjoying the ride.

My wife, being an avid and long-standing Man U fan, tells me this morning we are going to try get tickets for the Liam Miller memorial game in Parc Ui Chaoimh! She wants to see the old "legends". Good idea. Could be good craic if we can get tickets, I think they go on sale Monday.

Congratulations KATIE TAYLOR ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

A bloodied and bruised Katie Taylor achieved her long-held goal of unifying the world lightweight championship with a wildly entertaining majority-decision win over Belgiumโ€™s Delfine Persoon at Madison Square Garden.
