Hiya Folks,

Just asking out of idle curiosity - do any of you still play vinyl albums and singles?  I know that Biker Pat does for sure and I think (but I'm not sure) that Black Russian does as well?  I'm a vinyl junkie personally but I'm just wondering if anyone else out there still plays the old vinyl??

Cheers,

Mel.

Rarely Mel, still have them all but just don't have the time any more.

Between work, matches, training, kids, pub  etc, very rare I get an hour or two to chill by myself to listen to anything  .

Nowadays it's nearly always the I Pod or in the car.

Never play vinyl anymore......

I don't believe the human ear can tell the difference
Really though...too lazy to be changing the albums and too hard to skip the songs that are crap.

What I started doing was making compilation CD's. IE, I got my hands on every album Van Morrison made and copied all the ones I really like to one folder...Then same for other artists. So if I want to play Pink Floyd I put in the CD and hit shuffle so I never get them in the same order. How many of you have bought an album and found out there are only 3 good songs on it? So I copy them over to the folder and prob never even listen to the original CD any more.

Easy way to get all albums is to get them at the library and copy them...FREE....LOL

Most folders are on a 30 gig MP3 player.

I think I still have every vinyl album I ever bought though but they are in a closet somewhere taking up space.

Now I would try that. (To copy some of the rare vinyl over to PC)

I gave all my vinyl to Andy when I was back 3 yrs ago.
But I think I'll start my collection again. Vinyl getting popular and turntables more available now.

But for now I usually listen to cd's or my Ipod.

I sold all my LPs years ago when I was moving to Denmark. The cost of shipping them was way too high.

Have most of mine still and rescued some from a skip a few years back!
Unfortunately my turntable died and haven't got around to replacing it.

I still have quit a few and I play them pretty often. I bought a complete new system this year and I'm enjoying it.

Still have all my vinyl, and a decent record deck & great speakers, but NO amp!
Should have the turntable spinning again before Christmas!

Love the iPod, but there's nothing like the subtle crackles & skips & flipping LPs every 20 minutes, but nothing I've had beats the sound from a stylus and a pair of Wharfdales!

btw, Maplins are also doing a "vinyl-archiving turntable" for €69.99 till Christmas.

I have a fair bit of vinyl and still collect 45's at record fairs and the like. I would not tend to play them often. I few months back, I bought a lead and software to convert cassettes and vinyl to mp3, but the quality in some cases was inferior.

My wife has an old friend of hers that lives in Heidelberg in Germany. Whenever we visit, I go to a record shop there that sells only vinyl, including 45s and 33 bootlegs. Some amazing stuff. Last time I got a Sabbath live show from Paris in 1971 which blew me away. It starts with quite literally the best live version of 'Paranoid' I have ever heard. Gives me goosebumps whenever I get in the mood to play it loud. Wish I could get this one on to CD!

You can get USB turntable that connect directly to the PC, My PC has Phono connections on it and I still have my old turntable from my last stereo system.. Thinking of buying the USB one in Lidls this week for €59 or HMV have them from €150...

Maybe this should be in teh IT section BF

The Maplins one is a tenner dearer but I think I prefer the black finish..

Sister1, try Audacity software for cleaning up & enhancing the sound - it's free
