I second that Joey. Unfortunately other commitments meant I didn't get to see it - but a crowd of 50,000+ - that is some serious achievement never mind winning it...

Indeed! Pissin here this morning, won't be sorry to head for Portugal - 24 and sunny! - in a couple hours.
Have to say, apart from the litter issue post-picnic, which is a genuine problem, I have always found the crowd at the picnic to be very pleasant, good-humoured, and polite. And, I know this the wrong thread but anyway - an amazing fact I discovered: seemingly Johnny Logan is a big League of Ireland and Bohs fan, goes to the Bohs matches, the fans love him. And whenever Bohs get a goal/good result or basically whenever they feel like it, the fans all sing "Hold me Now" - one of his big Eurovision songs. I had a couple of serious "raver" Dubs explain this to me at the picnic, where he played a 30-minute set in the Throwback Stage! Just amazing... |

Definitely not all middle class South Dubliners at the picnic. I dropped a carload of Heinekin and a few northsiders down on Thursday night .
Congrats to our amazing football team, an absolute pleasure to watch as usual and a privilege to share in the celebrations. |

No big screen anywhere at the picnic - but I did have the pleasure of announcing to the masses that yes, it's official - Dublin have the 4-in-a-row! Given that - despite the whinges on the radio this morning about middle-class South Dublin children being the only ones attending the EP - most of the attendees were various categories of non-Dubs - there was a pleasing mix of cheers along with the groans !!!

That's it DUBS.
Tyrone put it up to you in the first half but like the great team you are you responded to the challenge. 2-5 to 0-6 at half time. Go on and win it. |

Lucky to have a Season Ticket so will definitely be there. Not having any of this rubbish about Dublin being so dominant that it's not fun any more. Was no one saying that when Kerry were doing it. If we win I will definitely think it is serious fun. I'd know Alan fairly well. He was manager of the Dublin Minors when they won the All Ireland in 1982.My best mate in school was the captain.

Too right Joey. For all Mickey has a good footballing brain, he turned Tyrone into one-trick ponies - now to be fair the trick worked for a while. But all this not talking to RTE is just load of sh*te, trying to take the pressure off his team. Dublin will just come out and do what Dublin do ...

Mickey Harte wont talk to RTE,,If Tyrone win this all Ireland they will be the first team to actually lose 2 games and pick up the cup I am hoping they are the first team to get to a all Ireland that lost 3 times

Yeah rolo, Frankie was a brother of Alan Larkin - sorry should have said that previous post - lived further along All Saints Road from me. That's great about the two lads playing - will you get along to see the match or general impossibility of getting tickets (I assume) mean you have to watch on telly? I am EP'd that day - just dogsbody volunteering - but I assume it will be on a big screen somewhere...

Presume Frankie is related to Alan Larkin, he of Heffo's Army fame ?
I only got involved 16/17 years or so ago when my kids started playing. Now two of their old team mates, from U8 - up to Minor are central to the Dubs ambitions, at 25 and 20 years of age.

I actually didn't Rolo - I was a little, weedy, lazy f**ker - now I'm a little, fat, lazy f**ker lol! But, let's see, who did I know might have been involved - Frankie Larkin, Mick Martin (now loads of Mick Martins for some reason - nearly as common as Gerry Dalys lol - this lad a tall guy from Clontarf I think, very sociable, cheerful type), can't think of anyone else... Ken Spratt was the guy I was thinking of from Erin's Isle. This back in the early-90s I think. Ken a sound, tall, good-lookin lad, he subbed for the Dubs a couple times, and I think got part of a game for them once ... I remember him telling me (and he was a really fit guy) what it was like training with the first team - impossible to lay a finger on any if them in training...
...my interests were more in the music (listening and playing) end of things Rolo. During the very early to late-70s I could be found any night down the Annes - the old pond of course ... |
