Derek Farrell, probably has one of the greatest music collections in the country. Vinyl/CD's/DVD's etc... truly amazing.

In the photo on the cover of the Grove reunion the guy on stage with Cecil is Derek himself back in Mount Prospect.

Cecil being a Beatles fan we'd thought this Sgt Pepper collection was appropriate for the day.

Thought wearing my Woodstock t-shirt was also appropriate as that festival is legendary as are Cecil and Derek.

Amazing photos Pat - what a collection Derek has and you're blessed getting a close look at it. I was trying to squint to read the names of some of the 45s in the pic with Cecil browsing and the only one I recognise (as I have it) is "Somebody's baby" by Jackson Browne. I thought I had a fair bit of vinyl (approx. 500 albums and about 1000 singles) but I have nothing on Derek. I hope he has it insured.

Thanks Mel, that's only a small part of his collection. To see it all is truly amazing. And Derek's a super bloke. Him and Cecil go way back and to listen to them chatting away about the early Grove days and record collecting from back in the day was truly amazing.

Great photos Pat and nice to see how Derek matured and kept his good looks since I last saw him in 1975.
Where did the Grove Book come from?
Some people may not know that the curly haired, brown leather jacketed guy on the cover with Cecil is Derek at age 20ish (1970 is my guess). The Ringo Picture was done by my brother Tony and the Revolution Poster was painted by a girl named Margie?...Who, besides her art talents was an absolute Grove knockout in the first degree...or maybe my brother Brendan might claim it? Thanks Pogue.
It's not a Grove book. It's a cover Derek made with the Grove documentary dvd inside. Yep, that is Derek on stage with Cecil back in Mount Prospect. Always thought the posters in the Grove created a special atmosphere. |
