It wasn't always cool to admit you liked the Monkees back in the day because most of their stuff was a bit too poppy. Here's one decent exception:

Always loves The Monkees music.
That Alternate Title song as pointed out was originally called Randy Scouse Git was a huge hit in 1967 and if memory serves me correct a top 5 hit in the amazing summer of 1967. Uses to have a double album of all their songs, including their hits, which I played often. Sadly during my move it was necessary to sell off the vinyl crown jewels. |

Interesting article Frank... I never paid attention to the name of the song or the anti hate lyrics when it was on the charts:
-------------------------- "Why don't you be like me? Why don't you stop and see? Why don't you hate who I hate kill who I kill to be free?"). -------------------------------------- The phrase "Randy Scouse Git" in Britain directly translated to, according to Dolenz, "horny, Liverpudlian jerk",[3]was taken from the 1960s British sitcom Till Death Us Do Part, in which it was regularly used, by the loud-mouthed main character Alf Garnett, played by Cockney actor Warren Mitchell, to insult his Liverpudlian ("Scouse") son-in-law, -----------------

Another decent Monkees song and arguable the first "Rap" song...or maybe the second, after Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues"

"Goin Down" is a great song Pogue.
B-side of Daydream Believer and is a dark song about a man contemplating suicide after a relationship break down but changes his mind and gets into the swing times. |

You and Derek have a lot in common. He was a big Monkees fan with the knitted hat and double-breasted shirt and Monkee jacket thing going for years- HAH!---pre Grove...he traded it in for a brown leather jacket that he still wears to this day.
Daydream Believer was a great song. I always liked this version by it's composer, who died fairly recently. Started as a member of the Kingston Trio and had a monster hit album"GOLD" back in the 80s, with not much in between. |

Pogue, I have that "Gold" song on a music compilation CD. Great track.
Derek has some of John Stewart's albums and is a fan. Ah the Monkee cap. Plagued my mother to make me one and she did, bless her. |

Right -It was probably Derek's influence that made me buy a couple of early John Stewart's LPs before I left for the US. He was not played much on the radio.

They are a bit too Bobby Goldsboro Pat but fitted better to the albums they were on. Like John, they didn't age well.
Here's a little gospel choir to get back in the mood. |

Wow Frank, wasn't aware of that album. Will be checking it out later. George Benson a fabulous musician - "Gimme the Night" one of the coolest tunes going, up there (to my mind) with "Take Five" or anything else by Dave Brubeck...

" The Wall " was my constant companion through out the 80's when music had reached it's nadir as far as I'm concerned .I'd forgotten how good it is until earlier this evening while trying to seperate cables around my television and used it to see if the DVD worked and it did .

Good stuff Frank. Do you know, I've only heard a couple of songs from that, must explore the whole thing. While we've had DVD players in the house since they started to be sold commercially, I've never been a huge user of them - dunno why. I don't have that many DVDs at home, in fact the only ones I've looked at in the last 18 months or so are the Grove programme and 32A film!
