Brendan and dayo. Did you not go to any of the gigs in O'Connell's? We weren't allowed go until after the Inter (For the youngsters, that's Junior cert). They had some great bands there. One i remeber was demon Duck with georgie Humphries from Lough Derg on drums. They played lots of Deep Purple. One time a beautiful girl asked me to dance. Wow. She remembered me from Ita's (not the hospital) national school when we were 7. I tried to get in touch with her but , alas no. Great memory, great slow dance.

Sorry Muller...doesn't ring a bell unless there was another name for it....I was goin to The Flamingo and Whelans and Moulin Rouge in the 60's. Locally it was The Grove and The Blind once in a while. Pogue remembers a few more. There were quite a few (Not regular) in Clontarf too.

Later it was Sloopys, Remember Slopys..it had 2 dance floors, one live band and one w a DJ and a restaurant up stairs. Was a bitch to get into though, The River Club 70/71 (Started getting bigger n fancier by then) and in n out of The Grove till I left Dub.

I remember Sloopys well. If I was desperate I would go there. They only served wine which I really hated and it was rip off prices. I seem to remember it was the haunt of the Chinese of Dublin.

Lord John's was the haunt of the coloured community of the time and also served sh*tty wine. It had an upstairs.

Both places could be a bit rough.

Rahenyman, The Chinese musta came after my time. There were some great Chinese restaurants up on Grafton St. but I don't think they mixed with us back then. Sloopys was a little rough though but lots of bouncers. (More fights outside than inside) Never heard of Lord Johns. I left Dub in 1971. And only "coloured"  people then were the rich sons of Arab Oil Barons going to Trinity or Med School or lead singers in our rock bands....LOL

Sorry Sister, By 89 I was getting feckin' old after surviving the 60's.

BMW, there are some photos of Grovers from diff eras in some Topic here. Not necessarily of The Grove though.

The nice thing about The Blind--like The Grove, all the wimmen lived within
walking distance...which in my case didn't mean much, except it was
reassuring to know they would arrive home safely.

Yep,I remember Sean, use to drive a Yamaha 350, blonde
hair, big into Rush. Hung around with us for a while, it
must have been 85/86, we all had bikes, use to start in
the Nep and then drive out to Smiths or the Summit to
end the Night. Hatch would lead the way on that black
Kawasaki 750 of his.
