About blotting out memories Esthalon..
I can't clearly remember if I ever even asked a single
girl up to dance during my Grove years. I know that
I was extremely shy in those days and didn't come into
myself in terms of getting brave until at least the
tail end.. when i was closer to 18yrs. I'm sure I must
have spent a bit of time weaving through the hall having
a faint notion that I might ask someone up to dance
but probably rarely plucked the courage. SOme of my
friends were at an advantage as they were in a musical
(Singout) where St Pauls' guys knew girls from Manor
House. I didn't opt in or wasn't picked for that so
it was always going to be harder to break the ice with
some complete stranger !

Hey Iano, Esthalon and Shayg, with all these appalling songs being mentioned, forgive me, but I feel a " Lonely Sky " moment coming on.

I'm having one of those Grove epiphany moments but....
was the track
"I'll find my way home" by Jon & Vangelis played
at some stage in the 81-84 period ?

Certainly was Iano.................making me laugh here 'cos as a serious music loving teenager, I used amuse my girlfriend at the time by saying that Jon Anderson was " prostituting himself "  by making that record.

Twenty plus years later, she's still reminding me of it.

I love it.
We were all so opinionated back then especially when
it came to musical principles

Guilty! We were all so eager to impress our peers with Musical knowledge.....TG for my brothers record collection (largely influenced by Cecil) it gave me a bit of a head start. I do recall at the Grove you'd be a bit wary about declaring yourseld a huge fan of someone in case you were quizzed about what you thought about the 3rd song 2 nd side of 5th album kinda thing...But if you discovered you knew more then them ....well then you were home free.

Spot on Esthalon, that's why we  used dig out the most obscure album in our collection and pester Cecil to play it at the start of the night, just to have people approach us and ask who it was.biggrin

Yikes they're all coming out now! It's amazing how completely I had blotted out the naff songs......so used to remembering all that was Amazing about the Grove...ah well I'd forgive Cecil anything....even the naff ones make up the memories.....and sure it's given me a laugh today if nothing else. Still have REO going round in my head.....

I loved guitar man , Bread, went to see them when they played in dublin a few years ago. Excellent concert.

Thanks for the memories of the silly songs I've been humming. Whose responsible for me taking out my Chris de Burgh albums (before he sold out with the Lady in Red crap)
