How Did Geese Help Save Ancient Rome From An Attack?By https://schema.org/Person" itemprop="author">Karen Hill Everybody knows that birds hear much better than humans do, and a long time ago this helped the ancient Romans very much, and the wonderful hearing of the geese saved the city from attack. The Romans kept geese as domesticated animals. In the middle of the night, an army of Goths approached the city. Although the cityβs guards did not hear the sounds of the advancing enemy, the geese did, and they began to make noise. The geese made so much noise honking, they alerted the guards in time for soldiers and citizens to make an effective defense of their city and keep it from being overrun. During World War I, French soldiers kept parrots in high towers because of their hearing. The parrots could hear the approach of an enemy plane long before a human ear could, and they always gave warning when an aircraft was near. |

JoeyβParrots are really good watchdogs, even better than watchdogs, because nobody knows what the hell a dog is barking for, but you can teach a parrot to shout β "Duckforf**ksake! here comes a plane", ...but they would have shouted it in French, so we still wouldn't have had a clue what they were screeching about. ...and let's not forget the poor canary and how they gave up their lives in coal mines all across Europe ...or roosters who wake us up for work on mornings when our iPhones are on the blink.

Remember back when you bought Wellies and they came tied together with string?
I was sixteen years old before someone told me that you are supposed to cut the string.

Ha ha ha ha ha Pogue - magnificent spotting!!!
How does a kid of that age have the confidence to do a comic performance like that though - what age was she? 6 or 7, not even that maybe ? Anyway Poguey, my Christmas is now complete ... |

At a funeral this morning when at The Offertory and the bell rang
some young(very young) child piped up with a rendition of Jingle Bells . It raised a smile at the time . |

One of only a few good things in music to come out of the 80s was Debbie Harry. She was good looking and could actually sing. It's not easy to harmonize with a frog.
