Very true Frank.

I was one of those kids who went to a neighbours house to watch telly.

And before we got BBC or as it was called "the foreign channel", I used to go to my neighbours house to watch Match of the Day or Top of the Pops.

May be going to hell in a bucket but at least I'm enjoying the ride.

As a young boy I used to hate this time of year for the following reason . Back in the day boys used to wear short trousers and when the weather got colder I got cold sores from the chafing where trousers met the leg . This is why I always wanted to wear corduroy trousers because I found they didn't cause these sores .

Did you know that corduroy pillows are making headlines?

On the same subject...a dwarf goes to the doctor and tells him that every time it rains she gets a stinging pain in her vagina. The doctor never heard of this before so told her to come in and see him the next time it rains. When it rained she visited the doctor tad told him that she was having the stinging pains again. The doctor told her to jump up on the table and he would have the problem fixed in a couple of seconds. She asked if he had some ointment or was going to operate and he said -"No, I'm just going to cut two inches off the top of your wellys".LOL

Used to love this poem as a child .

William Allingham. 1824–1889

769. The Fairies

UP the airy mountain,
Down the rushy glen,
We daren't go a-hunting
For fear of little men;
Wee folk, good folk,             5
Trooping all together;
Green jacket, red cap,
And white owl's feather!

Down along the rocky shore
Some make their home,      10
They live on crispy pancakes
Of yellow tide-foam;
Some in the reeds
Of the black mountain lake,
With frogs for their watch-dogs,      15
All night awake.

High on the hill-top
The old King sits;
He is now so old and gray
He 's nigh lost his wits.      20
With a bridge of white mist
Columbkill he crosses,
On his stately journeys
From Slieveleague to Rosses;
Or going up with music      25
On cold starry nights
To sup with the Queen
Of the gay Northern Lights.

They stole little Bridget
For seven years long;      30
When she came down again
Her friends were all gone.
They took her lightly back,
Between the night and morrow,
They thought that she was fast asleep,      35
But she was dead with sorrow.
They have kept her ever since
Deep within the lake,
On a bed of flag-leaves,
Watching till she wake.      40

By the craggy hill-side,
Through the mosses bare,
They have planted thorn-trees
For pleasure here and there.
If any man so daring      45
As dig them up in spite,
He shall find their sharpest thorns
In his bed at night.

Up the airy mountain,
Down the rushy glen,      50
We daren't go a-hunting
For fear of little men;
Wee folk, good folk,
Trooping all together;
Green jacket, red cap,      55
And white owl's feather!
There is a crack in everything ...... that's how the light gets in

The Shadow People

Old lame Bridget doesn't hear
Fairy music in the grass
When the gloaming's on the mere
And the shadow people pass:
Never hears their slow grey feet
Coming from the village street
Just beyond the parson's wall,
Where the clover globes are sweet
And the mushroom's parasol
Opens in the moonlit rain.
Every night I hear them call
From their long and merry train.
Old lame Bridget says to me,
"It is just your fancy, child."
She cannot believe I see
Laughing faces in the wild,
Hands that twinkle in the sedge
Bowing at the water's edge
Where the finny minnows quiver,
Shaping on a blue wave's ledge
Bubble foam to sail the river.
And the sunny hands to me
Beckon ever, beckon ever.
Oh! I would be wild and free,
And with the shadow people be.
