Frank, I think various threads contained Grove "stories" of one sort or another but no thread specifically called "Stories from the Grove"...

Jeez, I remember cogging alright. I remember doing my mock inter and I was sitting beside some fella doing his mock leaving. I was doing honours Irish, he was doing pass. He asked me (in a most gentle and considerate way) how come I was doing honours on such a subject, a subject that he may have felt very dearly about and may have felt he needed to encourage me about. Or maybe not.
The chap decided he had struck gold. I helped him with his pass Irish mock as I was a bit afraid not to, truth be told. But he then decided that his mates behind him should also strike self same gold. It started to get more and more difficult to basically assist half his class. Alfie Marron (physics teacher from Paul's with a reputation) came striding down the hall and put his face right up against mine (a man not afraid of a bit of agression our Alfie) and said "you'd want to be up fierce early in the mornin' to be pullin' the wool over my eyes lad" That was a scary few minutes but he put manners on everyone and I resumed my mock honours inter Irish, and the four or five lads around me resumed staring at the table in front of them, bored out of their trees

When I was a kid we were doing a composition on The Trush. I wrote down-
"Thrushes are plump, soft-plumaged, small to medium-sized birds, inhabiting wooded areas, and often feed on the ground. The smallest thrush may be the Forest Rock, at 21 g (0.74 oz) and 14.5 cm (5.7 in). However, the shortwings, which have ambiguous alliances with both thrushes and Old World Flycatchers, can be even smaller. The Lesser Shortwing ..." Just then I looked around and noticed this Jerry Farrington guy cogging over my shoulder so I covered my jotter. When the teacher asked him to read his compositionJerry stood up and read- "Thrushes are plump, soft-plumaged, small to medium-sized birds, inhabiting wooded areas, and often feed on the ground. The smallest thrush may be the Forest Rock, at 21 g (0.74 oz) and 14.5 cm (5.7 in). However, the shortwings, which have ambiguous alliances with both thrushes and Old World Flycatchers, can be even smaller. The Lesser Shortwing has fluffy feathers and a pointy beak and stuff" true story...not |

Nothing to do with bread but that "Northside" shopping centre jingle always reminds me of my youth. It's still aired on Near.fm these days....

Down in the valley where the green grass grows,
There sat <jumper> pretty as a rose. Up came <a boy in the class, particularly one the jumper likes> and kissed her on the cheek, How many kisses did she get this week? Count until she messes up. |
