Picked it up in HMV too - the girl there said people had been asking about it for months - hope it does really
well.
Watched it last night - smiling all the way through. What a great movie - yis all have to get it!

as I said somewhere else, the attention to detail - MBL milk bottles, the old telephone books etc etc, but ye'll
love it.

I did recognise the corner they sat on with the old phone box (which obviously isn't there really) - think it's the corner of Watermill Rd and Howth Rd.? (across from Manor Farm???)

I was struggling to recognise where Maeve lived-didn't they call it Elmwood in the taxi? Where was this location?

yep Elmwood is mentioned, but it was filmed in Raheny, not sure where though it looks really familiar too - will have to find out from Tommy
the credits thank the people of Raheny, Roscommon and Sligo!

God, I hope those bouncers won't be at the reunion on Sunday - nobody will be let in

Well finally got to watch 32A tonight.......and really enjoyed it. I found it to be a very innocent, sweet movie about friendship, boyfriends, and just growing up. I can remember fighting with my friends when they got a boyfriend and suddenly disappeared from our lives, only to appear back a few weeks later when it was "all off"
Cecil you look very handsome on screen

This is from "The Afternoon Show" on RTE. From a special friend in there.

DVD of the Week

(Irish Film)
32A
Dir: Marian Quinn
Starring: Ailish McCarthy, Orla Brady
Rating: ***

REF-http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0370242/plotsummary
Summary: "This story is set in the "in-between" time of a girl's life, when she is no longer a child and not yet a woman. We open with our heroine, Maeve, putting on her new snow white bra, and stepping out into the world as a young woman. She has an obsession with breasts and bras and can't help but stare at other girls and women, even the head nun doesn't escape her gaze. Otherwise, her world revolves around her three friends, Ruth, Claire and Orla, who are more experienced in the ways of the world. They wear bras already (except Claire the feminist) and they've all had boyfriends. The new bra is a start but they really hope Maeve can find a fella, even offering kissing lessons to prepare her. What no one expects, least of all Maeve, is that she should snare the local sixteen-year old heartthrob. Maeve is so smitten with him that she lets her friends down when they need her the most. In trouble with her friends and in school, she gets dumped by the heartthrob when she sneaks into the local dance with him and he leaves with another girl. Her parents find out and she ends up in trouble at home, where she takes on extra domestic duties. She does the laundry and even her bra has lost its former brilliance. Maeve realizes what she has lost. Her friends rally round for her 14th birthday, Maeve returns to the fold a little older and a little wiser. Winner of the Tiernan McBride Award for Scriptwriting in 2002."

Michael's Review: This charming, rites-of-passage tale concerns a young girl (young McCarthy, in a fine performance) growing up in Dublin's northside in 1979 and faced with the usual problems of boys, bras and acne. Many of our viewers will have fond memories of the Grove nightclub at the heart of the story.

As far as I know, here is where the girls would sit and chat before/after school,on Watermill Road. There was a 1970's phone box to the lewft and a bench on the right where they would gather. Unfortuantely, the internet did not show a still from the movie of this scene-would have been nice to compare 'then and now'.

(took this last Sunday evening before the re-union!)

I bought the film in the airport on the way home to Denmark yesterday and watched it this evening. I know that everyone has been raving about it and I had high expectations for it.
Well I watched it, but I doubt that I`ll ever watch it again. I found it unmercifully boring.Even the nostalgia didn't do it for me. There was so much that just seemed wrong in it. I have to say that I was disappointed. At the end of the day it`s a chick flick.
