I only ever heard of this movie on this site and for some reason assumed it was about The 32A Bus. How silly to I feel after just realising exactly what it is about, or is it about the bus route aswell? Has anyone heard if it's any good or what?

It's a play on the title Donal as it was indeed her bus route as well.
Marion Quinn wrote (and directed) and brother Aidan stars. There was a Grove scene filmed (bizzarely in a hall in Baldoyle, not in St. Paul's) with none other than Cecil DJ-ing. Cecil asked for direction,to which Marion said 'just say all the things you used to say between records'. Cecil told us in Malahide he didn't remember saying anything but he was then reminded of things like 'And that waaasssssss...' and 'And that's it-thank you' etc.

Just spoke to Cecil at lunch time.
He is going to phone one of the producers to see what the story is for the 22nd.
As he said himself " I could be on the edit floor and the Grove shot might have been cut out of the film "
Hopefully not and we will have a good night out at the pictures.
I have a problem with the 22nd as I have a group of Scots coming over for the match.
Swords was handy but if the picture is on I'll make some arrangement.

Im sure they would be well able for the sl*gging but I dont know if the girls would be able to keep their hands off. Could be a bit of a risk but what the hell, I'm sure every good Scotsman has had a hand put under his kilt at some time. Im sure they would be delighted with that.

Just talking to Cecil.
I'm afraid that the showing of 32A is completely sold out for Feb 22nd. No tickets left. ( He's getting some for himself as a VIP ) .
However the producer said that it will be screened in two cinema in Dublin in March
The producer is going to send a mail to the site with details when they are to hand.
I think therefore that we will have to make a night of it and go see the movie then have drinkies.

Anyone see the write-up in the Northside People about the 32A movie? I just came across it tonight. It gave a very good reveiw and filled in the background info that most of us here will already have.
Imagine St.Pauls being unavailable to shoot the 'Grove' scene!
It followed with an advert for the Easter Reunion and described the 'Grove' as having great success and as going from strength to strength .

A LOW budget movie shot on location in the Raheny/Clontarf area is taking the film world by storm.
32A tells the story of a teenage girl’s coming of age in Raheny in 1979.
The movie, directed by Marian Quinn, a sister of Aidan Quinn, who also
stars in the film, has been receiving rave reviews from critics. It had
its Dublin premiere last Friday, as part of the Jameson Dublin Film
Festival.
According to Tommy Weir, one of 32A’s producers, it was a long, hard
process to get the movie recognised but this is now happening.
“We’ve just got word that the movie will have a general release
probably in spring/summer and hopefully, it will be shown at UCI
Coolock given its Northside connections,” said Mr Weir.
Marian Quinn was born in Chicago, but spent her early teenage years in St Assam’s, Raheny, and attended Manor House School.
Her movie is described as a bittersweet coming of age tale set in the
world of a 13-year-old girl in 1979 Dublin, attending a Catholic school
for girls.
The girls’ strict routine is set off against the budding interest in
the opposite sex and their own changing bodies, illustrated by their
preoccupation with bras and bra sizes.
Amusingly, 32A is not only their bra size but also the route number of the Dublin city bus they ride.
Many Northsiders will identify with a central theme of the movie,
namely The Grove disco, which took place in St Paul’s, Sybil Hill.
In order to achieve authenticity, Ms Quinn went to the trouble of
getting DJ legend Cecil Nolan, The Grove’s original DJ, to star in a
cameo role in the film.
“It was a great experience and I was very happy to be associated with the film,” Cecil told Northside People.
“It never ceases to amaze me just what an impact The Grove actually had on people’s lives.”
The actual Grove scene was shot on location in St Mary’s School, Baldoyle, with Cecil spinning the discs.
“Apparently, they couldn’t get St Paul’s Hall for the day so they did
it in St Mary’s and it took a full day’s shooting to get the scene
right,” explained Cecil.
“I don’t actually remember Marian from The Grove but I do remember her
friend, Jackie, who used to come up to the desk with requests for
songs.”
Meanwhile, the series of Grove reunion dates continues to go from
strength to strength with discs being spun by DJ Andy Colbert, with
special appearances by the legend Cecil.
The next Grove reunion will take place on Easter Sunday, March 23, at The Button Factory. Doors open at 9pm.

Spoke briefly to the main man Cecil today - at a soccer match! - and he was saying that the 32A movie is far more "Grove-orientated" than he had expected and all in all he was chuffed with his cameo and the overall representation of the feel of the place. He also said that he has a peep on here from time to time and is really delighted and amazed at the camaraderie and crack he sees which spans the generations of Grove-goers. Had a good laugh at his "Portmarnock Pensioner" title which one of the tabloids gave him as well ...

I,m looking forward to seeing how the Grove scene looks in the movie,I might try and get tickets for 15th August,as I am going to a Led Zeppelin tribute band in town that night,so maybe I could do both, and I,ll probably be in the mood for some head banging after the movie,so it could work out well

Tommy,
That's a fantastic review and great credit due for it's production.
Unfortunately will miss 15th as I'm away in Cavan at a reunion of pals from Cootehill who I hung around with in the 80's and also my friend coming over from Paris.
But I'll catch the film later.
Well done
Pat

Hi Tommy - I loved the trailer. Is it true that the film is going to be shown in Carlow as one of the girls is from Carlow?? I heard this today and I am hoping it is true???

One our four leads, Orla, is from near Carlow and we'd love to show there.
Can't confirm that just yet though.
And if it did open there it would be later than the other venues.
That's the plan at the moment.
Thanks for asking.

Movie 32A Time 9:00
Price €9.20 Drinking Venue.... Foggy Dew???
Talking
to Cecil today. The tickets for the 32A on Friday night haven't been
blocked booked. I think if people want to go and see this on Friday we
need to meet up earlyish on Friday evening. About 7-7:30 to get the
tickets or if people want to try and get tickets themselves during the
week and then meet up ?? I don't know if seats are prebooked or you
can sit anywhere...

yes TP, a fabulous film. I loved the attention to detail on things too numerous to mention - it'll really bring you back to the '70s. No hidden plot, no twists, just a great film. Very Funny - you'll laugh a lot and the eyes will probably well up at the Grove scenes - it'll bring back memories, whether you went in '67 or '97. Loved it!
Hope ye Grovers around the world won't have to wait too long to see it.

Really enjoyed the movie. A couple of real laugh out loud moments. Also
there were moments which we could all relate to. Good cast. Would love
to see it again.
Enjoyed the craic after the film as well.
