I remember the band well BS but could not remember the name. We used to
hang out with Maria a bit on regular nights. How is she now? Married with
ten kids I bet. I might be mixed up a bit with Oulton (Tennis Club), but
didn't Phil (Skid Row) play in the Grove a couple of times?

Hi Ben

I played in a band with Maria's brother Gerry. Harvest Research about the same time. Welcome to the site

PS I think Gerry pinched most of her gear

I am sitting in the Foggy Dew pub for the first time in a few years...am going to see the Pretty Reckless gig in the Olympia tonight...the pint of Guinness is nice, but at €6 a pint,it's kind of leaving a bad taste in my mouth...🤘

May be going to hell in a bucket but at least I'm enjoying the ride.

When I started drinking it cost 1 shilling and eight pence for a pint (1969) - then people went mad because the price went up to a half crown (you could only get 8 pints for a pound). There were no such things as hills, or dirt back then.

Great days Sean.

Pints were affordable then Richie Ryan of Fine Gael started upping the price in 1974's budget. 😡😡

I remember, when I was 16 and a pint cost 18 pence in the Old Sheiling in Raheny, saying if it ever went close to a pound for a pint I'd be giving it up - I'd barely started drinking and was parroting what I heard all the oul fellas saying in the pub!!! Of course I'm still drinking away 50 years later and the days when it only cost a pound are long gone...!!! 💷🙄

Gerry,I've being hearing that for years,ha ha...a pint of Guinness in my local is a fiver now,and that's the cheapest in the town, and the lads are still going for pints.

Lol, I know Sean 😂😂. We make eejits of ourselves (well, me anyway!) declaring this, that, and the other, and then doing exactly the thing we told everyone we wouldn't do... 😅😅😅

Back when I started working and the pint cost a half crown, the union rate for a tradesman (mechanic, plumber, carpenter) was around 14 pound ten shillings a week - Electricians made about 18 pound. That equates to earning 144 pints a week - or 720 euro by today's standard... I can only drink about 78 pints a week so consider myself ahead of the game.----I made that upWink
