Ok, this is for guys and gals.

I support Manchester United.

I was named after my uncle who lived in Manchester, right next to Old Trafford.

Apparently when I was very young he would come home and sit me on his lap and chatter away to my Da about Man U.

My Da was a great Man U fan as well.

That was er................ 1950's when the Busby Babes were at their peak. My Da (RIP) before he passed away gave me a colour photo taken from the back of an Evening Herald in 1957 of the Busby Babes when they played Dalymount. Have that framed and is a prized possession.

So as I grew up into the 60's I was totally gone on Man U and then Best, Law, Charlton came along.

I remember running all the way up Collins Ave having been at "Solidarity" (remember that stuff) in Donnycarney Church to get home in time to see the 1969 European Cup final.

Still have a souvenier from that final.

Anyway we then had the barren 70's and 80's when we won the odd Cup Final which was great.

And then the glorious 90's and now.....................

Man United for me back in the day - these days it's whatever we get a chance to see over here in this godforsaken place of no soccer land.

Every day in every way, we love you Leeds,Leeds,Leeds.               Marching on together and all that.

Similar story to Pat's, my Grandfather knew Johnny Giles and when he moved from United to Leeds in the late sixties, there was only one team for me.

yeah- was a great result for us. The dorgs were a bit nervous for the first 20 minutes or so, then they settled down for the rest of the half. the goal really settled things down for us, then the second goal, we knew it was ours!!!!

I was in the south terrace right behind the goal for both goals, place went mad. great party then up in drogheda last night.

ive been to quite a few games up at united park, not enough tho. was bloody cold yesterday.

was a great atmosphere, nearly 25 thousand people there! great for the drogs, and great for irish football. One thing that struck a mate of mine who is from london, was the way the fans were all in the pub afterwards, with the corkonians congratulating the drogs on a good match. he thought that was pretty cool!

No Pat, Milan beat Bayern Munich, hammered them actually. My brother lived in Milan for a while so they've always been a favourite of mine. I've been to the San Siro when I visited him there.

Agree with you about the setback 'gainst Palace but if you'd said ten weeks ago that we'd have got to within 4 points of Sheffield Utd.by this stage I'd have bitten your hand off.

Dublin v Mayo in Parnell Park under lights tomorrow night. Will be a good bit of crack. We can't afford to lose and they've won their first five matches so watch out or firecrackers.

As for that French f**ker Cantona, don't get me started.

Would have said so if they hadn't drawn Juventus. They won't let them play the way Madrid did or even Barcelona might have.

I'd love to see them do it though. Thierry Henry deserves to win one and it'd be a right kick in the boll*x for Patrick Vieira if they did. Just like Michael Owen last year who left the Scousers for Madrid 'cos he wanted to win the Champions League LOLLOLLOL

Rock on Rolo.......Michael Owen Angry

So what's the sh*t with Cantona..........I know he left youse but you gotta admire the guy......personally I don't think he would have achieved the same status with Leeds (no offence).........he was made for the Theatre Of Dreams.........I wish he was still around.........one of the all time greats........

I've been following United since the 50's and he's one of the few players that really had it all.........Best of course.......Law in ways sure and not forgetting young Duncan Edwards............Keane as well..... but Cantona was champagne.Wink

Ah I know Pat. Just jealous. He played for us for about fifteen games towards the end of our last championship season 91/92 , scored three goals and everyone said he won the league for us.Angry

Then he started causing trouble in the dressing room, rumour had it that whenever he didn't turn up for training all the players were immediately on the phone to their wives, checking them out.

Agree he was deadly at Old Trafford, but not as good as Keano..........now there was pure class.

Now its Henri and Freddie never any shortage of heros at Highbury .

Fingers crossed for tomorrow night really think this just might be our year !!!!!!!!!

Yeah Pat,

Delighted to see a good win for Dublin, guarantees them Division One football for next year. Still doubt their Championship potential though. Won't bore you with my reasoning, unless of course you're really interested at which point I'll say that we don't have enough scoring forwards, lack cover in Midfield for either injury or a below par performance from Whelo and need our best half backs , ie Bryan Cullen and Paul Griffin to actually play at half back...............

Sorry, just can't resist once I start.

Thanks Pat have to say really enjoyed the game last night thought the first goal was a gem starting with Veiria losing the ball doesnt get much sweeter then that and of course our Henri with the icing on the cake. Still dont want to count our chickens just yet but feeling hopefull.

Regarding playing UTD my favourite was FA cup final , cant remember year when I believe Charlie George scored the winning goal to make it three two to us am sure I could think of a few more if I tried !!!!!!!!

1979 Blondie and Alan Sunderland scored the winner. Arsenal went two nil up early with goals from Frank Stapleton and Brian Talbot. United equalised in the 88th or 89th minute before Sunderland scored the dramatic winner. D'ya remember Liam Brady's man of the match performance that day ?

Charlie George scored the extra time winner against Liverpool in 1971.

Feck off you two..........1979 the year we would have won it had it gone to extra time but Sexton f**ked up by not making the substitution immediately after we equalised.

Anyway re last night. Fair play to Arsenal. Played some glorious football. I thought the Ivorians Eboue and Toure as well as Pires were brill.

What did I say above. Arsenal outside chance to win it.

Re the Dubs...Rolo I don't know enough re current squad to comment.
I used to follow the Dubs but got pissed off as everytime they got to a Leinster, All Ireland semi or Final it was impossible to get a ticket.

So I said f**k the GAA. I'll not waste anymore money going to Croker.

Was there last year for the Meath game but that was it.

Man U to beat West Ham tonight. Clap

Ah Pat, Croke Park on a Leinster Final Sunday...............cant' beat it.

Share your opinion on the ticket thing. However last year the only game I wanted to get to but couldn't was the All Ireland Football Final.

For all games in Leinster, including the Final, tickets are available from the Leinster Council in Portlaoise. The trick is to order them by phone before the finalists are known. Ok so you might have to go watch Laois v Meath but you're guaranteed a great occasion.

Agree with you on Arsenal last night. Here's hoping they go all the way.

Stand corrected Rolo was 71 when Charlie George lay spread eagled on ground after scoring ???????

Anyway both good games for us .

Agree Pat that they have an outside chance but worried about getting to hopefull .

Looks like we will have to win to qualify for Europe next year as doing rubbish in premiership at the moment.

Managed to get to see the Dubs a couple of times last year have to say the atmosphere is second to none at Croke Park

Way to go Blondie.................

In 2001 when Leeds got to the Champions League Semi Final, it was a Spanish Team who's name began with V who did us. ( Valencia.)smiley19smiley19

Fingers crossed it don't happen again. Arsenal should have too much for Villareal ( or however you spell it.)

No idea how you spell it either Rolo but think hope you are right and Arsenal sail into the final.

I reckon we'll meet Barcalona in the final reckon they have too much for Milan and then as they say its anyones game on the day.

Leeds fan I take it ?? How are they doing these days ??

Do you think they'll be back up next year ???

Nailed on for the Play Offs this year. Few injuries to key strikers at the moment so not holding out too much hope of any success there.

Reckon if it does happen it'll be a Sunderland and right back down.

A far cry from successive European Semi Finals in 2000 and 2001.

Tend to agree with you regarding Barcelona and Milan. Would love to see Arsenal / Barcelona final....................not much chance of a negative game there.

Milan, you just never know with them. Can't ever write them off.

Yo Blondie.

Great win for Man U yesterday.........taught Arsenal a real lesson.....9 wins on the trot....pity we hadn't this form earlier in the season......Rooney outstanding....I think O'shea is playing well..........defense great and Vidic good signing.......if not this year we'll win the Priemiership next year and do very well in Europe.

Hey Pat was wondering when I'd hear from you.

Will have too agree felt Arsenal were out played by utd as much as it pains me too say it.

Just wished Chelsea had lost as well would have made me feel a whole lot better if the gap was narrowed to 4 points .

Am trying to console myself with the fact that we are in semi finals in Europe this year !!!

It will be 4 points after tomorrow night. We play Sunderland at home.

I have no affection for Arsenal but I really think you have an outstanding chance of winning the Champions League this year.

Not easy to say

Felt quite tense watching dont know if it will be enough really hope its not going to be one of those "We wos robbed stories"

Will just have too wait and see if Henri can get an away goal for us.

U reckon Barca will beat Milan ?

Yeah I do now.

Thought Milan would've had to at least get a Nil Nil at home to have a chance. Barca can kill them on the break now that they have to chase a goal.

Listen, you've not conceded a goal in 9 CL games. That's an astonishing record. One away goal and it's ball burst, game over.

Yeah, not sure where we're gonna finish, could still be 3rd 4th 5th or 6th and that dictates who we play.

Reckon we're running out of steam a bit now though after a long season. Hopefully one last push will do it.

Football Football.... I went through a phrase of following Liverpool in the 80's. A guy in the class cousin was Ronnie Whelon so we all thought we were great. Also one of my son's first words was Liverpool.

The one and only time I saw Dublin play in final at Croke Park was 1983 I think played Galway loads and loads of people well about 5 got sent off but Dublin won.

Was on the Hill that day magic have to say these days when I go to a game its seats all the way

Ah yeah, but we're not there are we, courtesy of Mr.Kerr's chicken tactics against Israel ( twice )

As for the Dubs, you're probably right but ya just gotta support 'em anyway.

Reckon we'll be a bit better than last year ( although semi final against Laois is going to be a real hard game ).

Unlucky not to beat Tyrone the first day, reckon we could have done Armagh had we managed it.

Anyway, love the Championship Sundays in the summer. Me and me small fella go to Croker every week, no matter who is playing.

Blondie, remember that day in '83 well. Brian Talty ( Galway midfielder and alleged recipient of famous dig at half time in tunnel ) was a teacher in our school at the time and I've met him many times since. Can't get him to spill the beans on what happened that day though.

you're right of course nothing like a full croke park to get the blood boiling but too many games there last year that had small crowds, need to keep some of those larger games down in the provinces. how do you stand on the whole opening up issue?

In theory I agree with the games going to the provinces. Against that, I just love going, as I said, no matter who is playing so there'll be less matches to go to.

On Rule 42, I'm also a Republic Of Ireland soccer nut and think it would be deadly to see the home games played there, imagine the atmosphere. As for Rugby, just dont like it so don't care.

But with a GAA Members hat on and casting aside the financial side of it, gonna be difficult seeing the Union Jack flying and listening to their anthem next March.

Pat, footballer's Ciaran Whelan, Raheny born and bred, Hurler's Conal Keaney, from Ballyboden St.Enda's ,best hurler in Dublin but playing football instead.

Really hope they can manage to do it.

Won't see the first half 'cos Raheny have Senior Championship Replay  Vs Na Fianna in Parnell Park tonight at 7.30 so won't be home 'til nineish.

Hopefully Henry and Co. will have the game sewn up by then. What about that goal at the weekend ?

I have no doubt that a few of you will get a kick out of this - seen it on another website I visit..

Extremely important advice and recommendations to be passed on to wives, girlfriends, mothers, sisters, daughters, etc. (to all women in general) These rules are to be communicated prior to the World Cup in June/July this year... List Of Rules.

1. From 9 June to 9 July 2006, you should read the sports section of the newspaper so that you are aware of what is going on regarding the World Cup, and that way you will be able to join in the conversations. If you fail to do this, then you will be looked at in a bad way, or you will be totally ignored. DO NOT complain about not receiving any attention.

2. During the World Cup, the television is mine, at all times, without any exceptions. If you even take a glimpse of the remote control, you will lose it (your eye).

3. If you have to pass by in front of the TV during a game, I don't mind, as long as you do it crawling on the floor and without distracting me. If you decide to stand nude in front of the TV, make sure you put clothes on right after because if you catch a cold, I wont have time to take you to the doctor or look after you during the World Cup month.

4. During the games I will be blind, deaf and mute, unless I require a refill of my drink or something to eat. You are out of your mind if you expect me to listen to you, open the door, answer the telephone, or pick up the baby that just fell from the second floor....it wont happen.

5. It would be a good idea for you to keep at least 2 six packs in the fridge at all times, as well as plenty of things to nibble on, and please do not make any funny faces to my friends when they come over to watch the games. In return, you will be allowed to use the TV between 12am and 6am, unless they replay a good game that I missed during the day.

6. Please, please, please!! if you see me upset because one of my teams is losing, DO NOT say "get over it, its only a game", or "don't worry, they'll win next time". If you say these things, you will only make me angrier and I will love you less. Remember, you will never ever know more about football than me and your so called "words of encouragement" will only lead to a break up or divorce.

7. You are welcome to sit with me to watch one game and you can talk to me during half-time but only when the commercials are on, and only if the half-time score is pleasing me. In addition, please note I am saying "one" game, hence do not use the World Cup as a nice cheesy excuse to "spend time together".

8. The replays of the goals are very important. I don't care if I have seen them or I haven't seen them, I want to see them again. Many times.

9. Tell your friends NOT to have any babies, or any other child related parties or gatherings that requires my attendance because:a) I will not go, b) I will not go, andc) I will not go.

10. But, if a friend of mine invites us to his house on a Sunday to watch a game, we will be there in a flash.

11. The daily World Cup highlights show on TV every night is just as important as the games themselves. Do not even think about saying "but you have already seen this...why don't you change the channel to something we can all watch??", the reply will be: "Refer to Rule #2 of this list".

12. And finally, please save your expressions such as "Thank God the World Cup is only every 4 years". I am immune to these words, because after this comes the Champions League, Italian League, Spanish League, Premier League, etc etc.Thank you for your cooperation.

Regards,

Men of the World

Well done eejit...that is very funny. I grew up in a house of brothers who lived for football (think thats why I hate it so much) will print that out for them and give it to their wives. I have always hated football and yet back in 1994 when I was working I won a trip to the world cup in USA to see Ireland play Norway in New York. And yes much to the dispair of my male co workers (who loved football) I won the trip through work. I went.....really for the shopping !!!! But I did enjoy the experience of New York and the world cup.....but I still don't know what off side means.... guess I never will. I am a big F1 fan myself and Michael Schumacher is my hero and he won on Sunday so I am happy
