How blessed we were to have such incredible music at that time

Pat

Levon Helm Band, Jefferson Starship and Country Joe McDonald are among the acts that will descend on Bethel, New York, on August 15th to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival, http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/industry/e3i0a002ff178167cdf5ec92c815013cc00 - Billboard.biz reports . Mountain, Ten Years After, Canned Heat and Big Brother and the Holding Co. will also play the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, a venue built on the site of the original Woodstock, which ran from August 15th-17th, 1969.

Helm appeared at the 1969 fest with the Band, while Jefferson Starship took the Woodstock stage as Jefferson Airplane. With the exception of Big Brother & the Holding Co. — Janis Joplin performed at the ‘69 concert with the Kozmic Blues Band — the rest of the acts performing on August 15th all had a set at the original Woodstock festival. As http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/04/22/news-ticker-eminem-richie-havens-lil-wayne-and-the-jonas-brothers/ - Rock Daily previously reported , Richie Havens will also play a Woodstock-related event on August 14th, returning to Bethel to perform “Freedom,” the song that opened up the ‘69 festival, at a media-only event.

Four decades after it drew hundreds of thousands to upstate New York, Woodstock promises to be everywhere this summer. http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/04/08/first-look-psychedelic-taking-woodstock-movie-poster/ - Taking Woodstock , an Ang Lee-directed comedy about the behind-the-scenes story of the fest, is due to hit movie theaters on August 14th. Plus, Woodstock.com plans to http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/04/16/woodstock-organizers-team-with-sony-music-for-social-network-website/ - relaunch itself as a social networking site and the festival’s original promoters and organizers are scrambling to hammer down plans to http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/03/27/massive-woodstock-may-not-come-in-2009-promoter-says/ - commemorate the original festival by 2010 .

If I remember correctly, I was in Skerries today! Beautiful sunshine and a nice  coffee in the new cafe at the monument.

I was only a gleam in my Daddy's eye when Woodstock happened but they showed the concert on TV over the weekend. Hendrix was awesome. Shame he died before his time. Greatest left-handed guitarist ever.

We should all pitch a tent in Stephens Green and dive naked into the
fountain. I'll bring bread for the ducks and Derek can bring his Joan Baez
records.

Good for channel FX for showing the three Woodstock Diaries episodes and the last 24 hours of Janis, Morrison and Keith Moon. Great programmes. Add Jimi, Jon Bonham and Sandy Denny and realise what a surfeit of talent lost to drink/drugs.

Rock on Muller.

If I remember correctly you had the original Woodstock triple album and played it at my 21st which was held in your house in Ennafort in August 1974

At that time I could not afford a party so Muller and a few of our friends held a small party in Muller's house.

We used an old tape cassette player run through my Da's old wireless to play my cassettes as well as Muller's record player.

Never forgotten my great friend.

Great night, Pat. Strangely enough, someone nicked that same triple album at my own 21st, which was also a night to remember.

I have that album (the triple vinyl one - I dont think its yours Muller - I bought it second hand in the old Basement X record shop on Bachelors walk in the early 80s).  I havent taken it out of the press for a few years - must dig it out and give it a spin.

Ferg and I watched the 40th anniversary DVD of woodstock last night. To be honest *ducking as I say this* the music doesn't impress me at all now that I am old! However the "movement" that was demonstrated at the time of "F*** the establishment" was historic and laid the foundations for a new era entirely.

Carol, I gotta disagree with you re the music. Thought it was fantastic for the time.

There's hardly a performance that doesn't do it for me.

Pat, at the time I thought it was fabulous too...and was waiting for that "walk down memory lane" when watching the DVD but it didn't happen for me. Yep Brendan, it is cos I am old *LOL*. Mind you, when I saw the Grove documentary I loved the music!! I was never a "wailing guitars" girl so Jimi never did it for me really.

I was thinking while watching it (woodstock) that it must have been a HUGE shock for the parents of those kids because they were SO different to anything that had come before. Now our kids get into their various cult's/phases and we tend to look at them and think " ah bless...that'll pass"...but for the parents of "freaks" it must have given them heart attacks. Nobody had been that rebellious before.
