for Jen, Shaun, myself (just a learner!), and all who've tried the dreadfully addictive Guitar hero, and those who have recently acquired Xbox, Wii, PS2 or 3 or even DS!!! and want to know what game to get - here you go! hope it's ok to start a new topic.

Ciaran, did you beat Tom Morello? Both he and Slash have both kicked
my ass so I've gone back to GH2 determined to 5-star everything then
its back to GH3 to take them on again. GH3 is definitely more difficult. |
Yep, I was surprised after half an hour on (my son's PS2!) and MY Gh3!!! to meet Tom Morello (had never heard of him before ) I did get trashed by him, but then got a chance to play him again after a session in Practice mode - Then beat him!
I think I'll be revisiting GH2 a fair bit too - still can't play Freebird Anyone else got the game?

YES YES YES! :D Great idea to start this one.
First off, Tom Morello is the guitarist for Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave. And it took me about 20 attempts to beat him. Trick is to get battle powers (2 in a row if you can, but wait about 5 seconds before using them).
And if you think he's tough. Wait til you meet Lou later ;) Was in Jen's the other night and still managed to ace The Devil Went Down to Georgia, while fueled with baileys, guinness and jack daniels! My crowning moment.
Also for GHIII you need to play co-op career to unlock certain tracks. GH1, 2 80's i've unlocked all the songs on too. Love the game to bits :D

My kids have the DS and the brain training game. I finally managed to get my brain age down to 54yrs from 72yrs over the christmas. Still along way to go till I reach 20yrs.....the perfect score

Shaun, after that session the other night, we'd been playing career mode and so had racked up a shedload of cash so I went on a spending spree in the store and unlocked all the bonus tracks then bought a nice goth black outfit for Judy Nails.
Now its back to GH2 to raise my game.

I advanced my career a bit today - got to battle Slash. Man, he's tough, but beat him on the 3rd try. Had to overload his amp and break one of his strings. (sorry) I made a bit of money though, and could've bought Casey a new outfit, but spent the money instead playing a gig with Slash instead . Right choice eh Shaun?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero - Here ya go - Blondie, you'll have to try it!
My only complaint is that Air Guitar at the Reunions is MUCH easier to play!!
some of my Grove Guitar Hero favourites are - Smoke on the Water, More Than a Feeling, Frankenstein (all from GH1), - Carry on my Wayward Son - Sweet Child O' Mine- Free Bird (GH2) - School's Out, Paranoid and La Grange (GH3) and looking forward to trying Black Magic Woman
Gh3 has music from Foghat, Mountain and Cream up to the Pistols, Slipknot, Rage Against The Machine, there's something for everyone.

My current GH3 favourites are School's Out by Alice Cooper, Welcome to the Jungle by Guns & Roses, Holiday Inn Cambodia by Dead Kennedys and Sabotage by the Beastie Boys.
You have to play co-op career mode to unlock that last one.
Looking at the weather, I think it's definitely a weekend to stay and 'rehearse'.

Only 4 colours if you're playing on medium, which is where I'm currently at. Start off on easy because then you only have three keys to worry about, Teresa. Then there's the hard level where there's a 5th note....and that's when it all goes to hell. I'm not gonna go there for quite some time.
Just waiting for the other half to go to bed now so I can pick up the 'axe' again. It's an addiction I tell you!

not sure about that! or if being able to play guitar helps you at guitar hero.
It is a game though but it does get you used to holding the guitar, and strumming notes and chords at the right time - you have to get to know the songs well to play them well.
it's great fun, and user friendly. Teresa - try the Practice modes - that'll get ya hooked.

Just so people know, there's a PC game called Frets On Fire that's based loosely on the Guitar Hero games. You use your keyboard as a guitar (although the Xbox 360 Xplorer controller works with it too). It comes with a couple of songs but you can download song packs for it. You can google it for the download site.
Worth checking out if you don't have a console or just looking for something different.

Try http://www.videohelp.com - www.videohelp.com for remote control hacks for your dvd players. Although if you're unfortunate enough to have a Sony or a JVC, you could be in for a rough ride. Whereas they can be region unlocked, they are a pain in the ass and often require a laptop or a PDA (palm pilot) to do the job.
Philips are some of the best to unlock, a quick code with the remote control and away ya go. :)

Nope, it got released for the PS3 too, the controller ports are different (although 3rd party adapters were created to make the previous wired controllers work).

Word of warning btw. The controllers that came out with GH3 were flaky as hell. I think the Wii version was the only one that didn't have any issues, the 360, PS2 and PS3 wireless guitars that came with the game were utter cack.
(Believe me, i know! I had to switch back to the wired controller to get a decent score on the game)

Yeah, i forgot to be a bit more specific.
The Ones issued after Guitar Hero 2 were fine. The ones issued WITH Guitar Hero III with the detatchable neck are the troublesome ones.
Just hooked up the 360 to the 5.1 surround. Blared it up while i played "She Bangs The Drums" (unlockable once you finish the game). My fiancee wasn't impressed!

I went into Game in Northside this morning and asked if they had the wireless guitar controller for the PS2. They said they had and it was 45 euro. I said I'd take it and the guy went out back to get it. While I was waiting, the smart-arse behind the counter made what he thought was a funny comment about my jacket. (It's brown with a cream fleece lining) "Made any bombing runs lately?" He asks with a big grin on his face.
"Ha-ha. You've just lost a customer." I replied and walked out. I'll take my custom elsewhere thank you. Bloody cheek!

After buying GH3 after many recommendations here, I took it home played it a few times.. I am not a big Games Console fan anymore more of a PC gamer, only games I played on Playstation racing car games and Tomb Raiders and Resident Evil games and BUZZ!!... I have to say I am not overly impressed with GH3 yet was playing it with Brad over the weekend, but I just can't get into the game at all. Music is great on it though..
Anyone want to buy GH3 slightly used

Whats the deal? Is it too easy or is the concept of playing Simon for hours on end not your bag?

Don't know Shaun. Its just a game that doesn't just jump out and grab my attention. I do like my games though. It probably end up been a weekend game for me and my son on a rainy Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Thats about it at the moment.

Blasphemy! Oh well, guess it's not for everyone. Just surprised you didn't take to it Peter. Throwing rock poses not your thing then?

Ah thats the problem really. It's more a gane to play when you have a few people over. Once you've done that, you'll find yourself playing it more just to show off. Give it a little time.
If after a few weeks you're feeling the same way, then forget it. It took Jen a couple of weeks to get into it before she ended robbing Andrew's PS2 and buying a copy! ;)

From the sounds of this game and my exposure to it last night i think I am going to have to be wary of this game. Has the potential to take over my life!

Fair play to you. Those guys in that shop are arseholes. I was in the in jan. and they were sl*gging off people who were bringing back consoles (PS3 and XBox360s) with faults. There were four such people there in a line and the idiots in the shop were so rude to them. Great to hear how you walked out. I'll never go back there either again!

So it wasn't just me then? Their staff obviously have had no training in customer service. Think I'll be shopping somewhere I can be treated with some courtesy in future.
As for Guitar Hero, yes it IS addictive. I've been known to spend an entire afternoon or evening trying to up my skill level.

We got the Wii only two weeks ago....and haven't stopped playing it. Just bought the Mario and Sonic Olympic Games yesterday and it's brilliant and hard !!!! It's so much fun watching the faces of those who are playing it, waving their arms all over the place..........great excerise but very sore mussles too.....ouch....

Is it hard to get it to do what you want? I often wondered how good the controller is? Imagine getting exercise and gaming!!! The world is a changed place.

It's not too hard...when you understand how to control it. I'm still having some problems but the kids and Robbie (HD) are flying at it. Honestly my arms are aching from playing it. Would really recommend it. Great fun, 10/10

great stuff Bluebell, We have Mario Galaxy for the Wii and Santa brought MySims. Kids like it but I haven't given it a good go yet. Sports is Great.
I'm banished to the front room with a portable telly and my Guitar hero 3. - which may also be for sale soon too. I've just met Lou the Devil in Battle Mode and now know it's impossible (and I'm only on Medium) ..maybe I'll give it one more try tomorrow, and another, and another....

I haven't gotten past Lou yet either. Takes practice. I'm still only three-starring the last few songs. Gonna take a while.
