A welcome addition to the Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Louth and Meath airwaves, Rock 94.9FM, even if they only broadcast at the weekends - it's better than a kick in the f!@**y. So tune in and rock on! For a more detailed schedule, follow the link below:

It's great isn't it Andy? Mentioned this earlier on another thread-fantastic to hear decent music on FM for a change...
They broadcast from Friday morning to late Sunday night-temporary licence. But hey! Give them your support-listen in. Even the odd text into them to know we appreciate what they are playing.

Listened a little and liked. Pity about the Dec 2nd end date, hopefully that might be extended?
One bug bear would be Saturday afternoon's DJ / announcer with his phony American accent. Leave that to the 2FM jocks pleeeeease.
Loved the "Other stations have to make an excuse to play good music in between the Britney Spears, we don't" - great line.

Wouldn't have agreed with the number 1 myself, or some of the running order (wouldn't put Highway to Hell ahead of Back in Black for example), but a great afternoon's listening.
and we got a mention at number 50 - thanks to the Grove site and for all their messages of support.

Used to be a Pat James on Radio Dublin in the evenings ( 10 - 12 maybe ),in the late seventies. Was a really good rock DJ, particularly helpful for a young fella getting his first taste of Rock Music.

Pat James he used to live in house opposite me, we used to go up to crofton airport hotel where he broadcasted from and sit in with him for his shows, he was great, always encouraging us to expand our musical experience. Pretty sure it was him who gave me my first stryder 7". He championed a lot of Irish bands. If i am not mistaken wasnt he one of only two or three people that the first U2 demo was given to for playing on Radio, must be worth a few quid now. He used to have honda goldwing and he had a really bad crash on it, which kinda took him outta circulation for quite a while.

Yes TP, Pat sounds great and is getting great feedback on his show about the great music and information he's still spreading.
That U2 demo - I have a recollection of 3 U2 songs being played, and of Dave Fanning asking the listeners to nominate which one should be the first A-side. Would that be right?

Out of Control,Stories for Boys and Boy / Girl were the three songs.
Out of Control made the A Side, with the other two on the B Side. They called it U23 and it was a listeners vote that decided the A Side.
Pat championed bands from the local scene in those days,Bands like Free Booze,The Atrix,DC Nein,The New Versions etc.
Nice story TP, and really glad that he's back on the air.
