Re-union time again! Was driving home from work today and Marty Miller (98fm) said 'Here's one from the Grove' and played Whole of the Moon-what a feeling!

Then come home to see the tix are on sale for Hallowe'en! Cooooll!

So-does BR's CD's make like a good playlist? What do you wanna hear?

Really would love some Horslips this time. Trouble or Dearg Doom.

Suggestions?

He lived just off Harmonstown Road

Yeah Gary-Eamon knew Tonto's brother,Dave, who lived down from Harmonstaown Road, and in fact gave him a pair of his sticks, which on numerous occassions I've tried to smuggle out of their house.

Does anyone have a vinyl copy of (now collectors item) Happy to Meet,Sorry to Part?

Oh,and as another suggestion,Stay with me til Dawn for the slowies...a classic song which had a thread all of it's own here once upon a time...

Has anyone heard Spiderbait's version of Black Betty? I reckon it's better than Ram Jams and would go down a treat at a reunion.

Hi all,

Just this minute checked out the Grove forum, Oh my god! Flash back time!!! It was amazing! I don't live near the reunion place so I don't have the pleasure! Sorry. I am an ex grover from 1978 to 1981 0r 82 ish? Good times, lots of snogging and fumbling? And the lipgloss! My favourite was Peppermint. Now I am a boring middle aged MUM ( according to my sons) Once upon a time I was having a pretty good time! Sigh! I am so melancholic now!

Hey Sue!

Welcome aboard.  This place is just like "Hotel California" (as one of our posters, Biker Pat, once said) - "you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave"..

You're not *that* far from the reunions by the way, many of us wander down from the outskirts of Dublin and beyond...you should come along, you wont be disappointed!

Well I do remember reading that the youngest european father in the world was 11, (He was from Wales!) so I guess those of you in your early 40's could "technically" be "old enough to be my mother/father" (as you put it Carol!!!!!!!) - if you had me at 11 that is!!!!!!

(read that a few years ago, so maybe there's a new european record by now!!!!)

Absolutely...

Ray D'Arcy had this thing on yesterday morning on his Today FM show-songs which you thought were hard rock then but really aren't.

He did a top ten...Black betty was in there (have to admit I thought that really was hard rock stuff first time I heard it at the Grove),Europe and Bon Jovi (definitely not hard) More Than a Feelng was there (not hard but a great track) and AC/DC (can't remember which one)

He got a ton of messages in then saying 'These are all great songs' and he then had to defend himself saying that he wasn't rubbishing the songs, just saying they weren't as 'hard' rock listening now as they sounded back then.

True,I suppose, but yes Finno-hearing every one of them brought me right back there to that sweaty, dark, hairy hall in a flash.

More Than a Feeling!

God you are all so welcoming! its so nice!
I have had a major influence on my 17yr old sons taste in music. Over the years he has heard me play all the old favourites (very loud in the kitchen) and now on his MP3 player is quite a few golden oldies. I am proud to say. But I still play the loudest music in the house! So can't be that old?
I also loved Jane by Jefferson Starship and yes I have hooked him on that one too! Not bad for a pre middle ager!

How "hard" is a hard rock song? all depends I think on the environment.

You play AC/DC low volume as background music and it could be any run of the mill pop band. Play it loud, in a dark sweaty hall (like it Martin) whil you headbang or mosh like crazy along with your mates - it's a different ball game.

Or you headbang to Whole Lotta Rosie on Easter Satruday and mosh to it on Easter sunday - same hall, same record, same sounds, very different result.

Think we've said the over and over again on different threads - the wonder of Cecil and the Grove was that so many songs sounded brill or different there.

and it's less than a month away again
