Floxi,

Here's a link to a Wikipedia reference to "The Grove" set up by Sully (one of the members here).

It gives a summary of the place.

Bruns, Floxi was a hard core regular at the Grove herself.....methinks she was suggesting that some general info be put up on the site for those folk who never attended / or heard of it etc..... but through word of mouth (about how fabulous the forum is!) want to join the website!

Ah, misunderstood there!  Thats a good idea!  So, if people wander in to the site, asking themselves "What's all this about?", they can click on an option to tell them! Some type of "About this site" button!?

I hope not Floydman

I started going to the Cricket Club as all my pals started going there.

I remember in 1973 there was a band there called the "4 Keys".

Biker P,  I remember the 4 Keys - Did you know Colm Wilkenson sang with that group, Mog Aherne, Drums , John Keogh Paino -  who were the others ?  Good days.  No great days

Pat, I didn't know you had pals in those days, just hangers-on who hung onto the pearls of wisdom that issued from your sagacious orifice (not your mouth) and conformed to your every change in taste. Just joking, buddy. Don't you remember we went to the Cricket on Sat and then the Grove on Sunday with the older crowd?

Fair play Bruns for re-posting that wikipedia link from sully. Struck me a few times that we should set about expanding that and adding to it. It's a great idea - would be great to flesh it out a bit.

No ideas mind - too much accounting training knocked any of the creativity outa me! Might try and give it a bash when I get a few minutes some day.

No worries, Whippersnapper.  I too have thought about putting some more stuff down on it.  Not too sure what to add though!

I have just returned from a trip home. In the week I was in Dublin I bet the
Grove came up in conversation about four times. Since the documentary
even non-Groverites seem to take pride in the place and wish they had been
members. What other club can claim that kind of loyalty?

I was moved to tears thinking-" Man! I could make a fortune flogging T-
shirts on this Grove thing"

Hiya Pogue,

After the documentary was screened on RTE, almost everyone (of about 12 of us) in my Office, was talking about the show and the Grove itself.  I was a little bit (but not greatly) surprised to discover that four of our office were regular grovers (including me).  The ones who werent regular Grovers were asking various questions like "Was it as good as they're claiming?" "The compound?" or "Your man Cecil did that for 30 years - really??".  I was half expecting some of the non-Grovers to comment on the reunions ("Ye're all bonkers!") but they seemed to be pretty in awe about the whole thing!!!
