Subject: cheating in the grove
Date Posted: 20-January-2007 at 02:04

Muller and Teresa's fave snog songs remind me back to when I first found a boyfriend was cheating on me.

Not so nice a topic but part of life as a teenager during our grove days.

Still remember the first time I found out. I was 19 - lucky to have to wait that long or stupid not to realise earlier!!!

I still remember you mailto:C@*i - C@*i # (better not say his name). For a long time I was so devastated and thought I must have been such a horrible person and he must have hated me so much to do that to me. I must say his friends were annoyed with him and took my side. They still included me in the group and most of the time left him out - for ages.

Anybody any cheating stories out there. Be honest. After all we were only young wans!!

Wow L,not a nice topic to discuss but you are right,we were teens, hormones were running high (not too mention alcohol limits) and yes,it did happen.

Mmm...should I name names???

I was still in school at the time (17 I think...wise woman once sang "I learned the truth at seventeen...") and was going steady with a girl from Virgo Clemence, accoss from Chanel in Coolock.

Think we were together for about 5 months which I supose was pretty serious at that age. OK,her name was Mairead,(better be careful-she might be reading)

One Saturday night I decided to go out to the comound for a breather and was talking to some mates and one of them was wildly trying to distract me...saying 'come back in now' etc. What they spotted (and I didn't) was Mairead getting beat into another 'friend'...Clinton. I stared blankly, and couldn't believe it.

I went back in,had a sulk and both of them came over to me and BLATANTLY denied it! Teenage stuff,('maybe he didn't see' etc).

It took two weeks for both of them to own up.

How do you deny something like that when it was obvious 20 or 30 other people saw it?

Oh God...this stuff was so important and heartbreaking at the time...I look at my little ones and think 'if I ever catch anyone breaking your heart...'

Floyd I'm an ex-Chanel College Grover and I think I might know the parties involved in your story ... doh!

My missus who's an ex-Manor House Lady burst my bubble about girls intentions when she told me that her and the mates used to have competitions to see who could "stick the lips" on the most blokes in the Grove. Had to pretend to be disgusted hahaha.

Then again wasnt their School song:

"We are the Manor Girls,
We wear our hair in curls,
We wear our fathers shirts,
instead of our skirts.
We neither smoke nor drink,
thats what the teachers think,
And when it comes to boys,
we treat them like toys"

Any of you there deny or confirm??

I remember thinking I was well in with a girl called Lisa over a slow set and then she had to "go to the loo" and me, like a wally, waited out near the ladies loo (beside the bouncers) for most of the night, wondering where she was!.  It didnt help that some of my mates spotted me hanging around there and tried to get me back in for the fast songs - eventually, at closing, she passed me in the hallway with another guy and her friend behind her just shrugged her shoulders at me - never been so feckin embarrassed!  Ok, thats a lie..I'm sure theres been plenty of embarrassing things besides that..

Great topic....

I do remember when I was about 16 I was going out with a girl from the southside, who needless to say never frequented the Grove. I never actually "went out" with someone at the Grove (more temporary moments at slow sets!), and when I went to the last reunion I was telling the wife that I had always wanted to be one of those guys who walked into the grove holding a girl's hand and saluted all his mates like a king - "look what I've got kinda thing". But I'm not scarred by it.

We had been going out about five months or so and it was obvious that neither of us was really into the other any more. But rather than do anything about it, we both just ignored each other and hoped someone somewhere would sort it out.

anyway, during this phase I headed off to the Grove as per usual, but this time determined to "do the dirt" seeing that I wasn't "really" going out with her. But I felt so guilty that I didn't. And fair enough with that sitting here now, but my big memory was feeling so "profound". And thinking about what this meant, man. And how deep it all was, and that there really was a meaning of life. When I see teenagers these days being so serious about small things, I sometimes think back to moments like that! And I didn't even drink at the time, so it wasn't lost in a cloud of alcohol....

Wow what a serious topic I was cheated on at the grove and when I got home who was sitting on my wall by your man - Fran... saying how sorry he was so I siad "no problem, don't worry about it"... brushed it off and marched on.

Now ask me about this subject as I got older and a few stories will be told....

Well interesting Topic Irish Mammy. Certainly not an easy one to discuss. I can think of one situation which I ended up in which was I was very hurt by at the time.

Lets see. I was going out with a girl for about 2 months. We met at the Grove one night and then started going out. Part of the ritual was going to the Grove most weeks. We had arranged to go one particular saturday when I got a phone call from one of her mates, saying that she'd meet someone else. I went into denial mode and arrived anyway thinking it wasn't true. However, after a while, she arrived in, arm in arm with the new fella. I was pretty pissed off - I mean the sheer cheek of it - had not even the decency to tell me herself !

To end the story, about four months later I got another call - the new boyfriend had dumped her and she needed a shoulder to cry on ! What kind of muppet did she think I was ? Swings and roundabouts I was thinking.

That never happened to me in the Grove years, I went out with a guy for a few months and we got on well, mad about each other for that time anyway. It was near the end of our time going to the Grove that we got together . However, he did get off with one of my Best Friends whilst with me. I broke up with him, not for that reason alone though and I am still friends with my mate, although it's always been in the back of my mind what she and he did.

Maybe  I just didn't ever see him with anyone while we were at the Grove ( he was very popular with the ladies and lads alike, they thought he was gorgeous and men thought he was cool). I never noticed him missing during the night or anything ...

He actually made the Grove really exciting for me because like someone was saying in a post up above this one...It was great to walk in with him holding my hand or arm around me and looking proud to be with me.... What a feeling And because he was kinda the catch of the place at the time

Getting back to this cheating thing.  I remember in the very early days of the grove this lad I knew who was quite the looker coming over to me and asking me to dance.  In the midst of it all he kissed me.  I was made up and then he said "you know I can't go out with you"....... "why not say's I" in all my youth.  "Because I'm going out with someone"...The fecker must of thought he was making my day.  Done and dusted there and then I walked off. No way was I getting involved in that lark.

Hay Floydman. I remember (AHEM!!) Mairead cheating on you that night you where well pissed.

Anyways, I once used the loo trick to get away from a girl that I didn’t really fancy ... I was snoggin her down the back of the grove (as ya do) when I said, "I have to go to the loo, I'll be back in a minute”. Whilst reroute back from the loo I met a girl in very tight black jeans, chatted and startes snoggin. Opening my eyes during this very long kiss I saw the other girl standing about 10ft away from me giving me dagger eyes. I can still see her looking at me. So what did I do? I disappeared for the rest of the night hoping that she didn’t see me or corner me and ask me what the hell I was doing…. I gave the next grove night a miss too.

Coincidently the girl in the tight black jeans was in my Wife’s class in school (I didn’t know me Wife then & she didn’t go to the Grove) and she still says “uh! You didn’t get-off with her, I’m not kissin’ you again”

That’s my little story.

Oh… one more…. I think I kissed Mairead too. But you weren’t going out with her then

Think I've opened a can of worms with this posting. Hope I didn't put you off Monarch. Just one of those things that happended when you were younger!!! You either did or or had it done to you by the sounds of things.

Still, it upset me more than I realised as I look back I found it hard to trust any guy because of it.

Even now, any "friends" I have that do silly things like that - not cheat with my husband!!! (any takers haha) but people who betray a loyalty etc fairly seriously I usually tell to feck off!! Don't have time for fools like that. God does that mean I still haven't grown up yet!!

Keeping it light though, we were all kids back then so I don't see the point in getting upset over it.  Sure the last thing any of us needed was a steady mate at the ripe old age of 15/16.  Ah... you live and learn.  I never took too much of that stuff serious.  Of course at this age it would be rather different.  Much older and wiser I hope.

Too right girl...

We had first dibs due to geographics...

We got out of school just on time to "admire" the view at the crossroads of the Howth Rd and Raheny Road at the Church.

Press the Button and Wait for the little Green Man.

Lads all screech to a halt on the racers and across the road we would stroll ( strut ). Give the perm a bit of a shake, make sure skirts were as high as they could go ( fairly decent compared to now ) and socks down around the ankles.

We would also face our bags the right way so the guys could see what Bands we were into.

Hated the wet days as the guys would wear those blinkin "snorkel" jackets with the hoods like a eskimo and you couldn´t see a thing. Not an ounce of the long glorious manes were evident. Of course we would be hidden under the monk style hood of the infamous gaberdine. Those days were hard on us all.

Yep, had that little routine down to a fine art, so much so, you knew by sight who would cycle by when and on what bike.

Sussed were the coolies with the hands dug into the pockets of the Reefer as opposed to on the handlebars and sussed were the ones who wore docks or dessies.

Once we worked our stuff across the road and the light turned green, the Tour de St Pauls would gather momemtum and press down hard on those pedals. We in turn would give one lasting good look at the pack with a resigned air knowing we would have to wait til about 16:30 the following day til we could do that ALL over again.....

Ah yes...Manor House was definitely in a better location that Holy Faith Clontarf for such treats ..

That is all I have to say about that !!

I am sure Holy Faith Killester were similiar to ourselves and up to such frowned upon antics...

Anyone care to divulge any past tricks of the trade ???

I went to Mercy Floydman... I never saw any of the blokes I fancied in the Grove anywhere near our school so I never ignored anyone. The only blokes we would see were the Chanel boys going by on their bikes. Mercy was a bit weird, if you were caught looking at a male by one of the nuns you were branded as a slut really. It was mad, so I think most of the time I kept my head down.. terrible... until of course I got to The Grove

Also, i only lived up the road from our school so was really aware of being seen by one of the neighbours and then killed by my mam!

We used to cut through the lane at the train station and go down through Ennafort onto the Howth Road and back up Brookwood going back/to school just to have a gawk at the St. Pauls lads !! Those were the days when your heart would give a little flutter cause the lad you got off with at the Grove the previous saturday said hello to you or nodded the head at you !!! Talk about cheating - I was going with a lad from St. Pauls - I am certainly not mentioning his name. He would have left in 1989 !  Get your thinking caps on - I was mad about him - we were going out for a while then this girl from Manor housey got her claws into him and he just dumps me - after I seen them snogging ! Heartbreaking as I thought that we would go travelling and see the world together and live happily ever after !!! Yeah !

Like Tonto above,we (in Chanel) had a half day on Wednesdays and loved sitting in my front garden watching all the talent. I was probably person in Artane who didn't go to Pauls.

Brookwood Avenue would be alive with that grey Holy Faith uniform, and now and then a 'greenie' from Virgo would parade past.Happy days indeed.

Hormones!

Me neither Martin. Couldn't even stretch to Chanel. Had to slum it in David's.

Beat the sh*te out of all the other local schools in GAA though.

You probably did...

Chanel was a basketball school,Pauls was rugby so we never really met on the courts/pitches...

I thought you looked familiar in the photos of the last reunion! The Wednesday afternoon lurker is unveiled as Tonto.

Us HFC girls were too well behaved to do the kinds of stuff you Manor Farm chicks got up to.  (polishes and straightens halo)

Thinking back to our last few months at the grove, I remembered an old friend of mine who "lost" her boyfriend to a very good friend of hers(!!!) who cheated with her boyfriend.

Friend #2 got pregnant fairly soon into the cheating and ended up marrying him (shotgun wedding). As far as I know he's been doing the same their whole marriage.

There's a moral in there somewhere.

Don't swallow the pill. Hold it between your knees!!!!

And when I was going out the door she would always say

"enjoy yourself and don't drop your knickers" ...... my friends thought it was hilarious while I just died.

Your Mother sounds like a great person and full of fun.  Will you say that to your daughter?

morning Teresa,

At the moment Rachel runs around without any knickers on - in the house, she says she doesn't like them.

Always have to check before we go out. She's at that age that she wants to dress herself and always puts the knickers on arseways (pardon the pun), so she usually doesn't bother, unless they're Dora ones.

A bit worrying for her teenage years.

Might have to use superglue!!!
