Hi Peeps,

Just wondering what schools you all went to in your Grove years...since most of the Grove crowd came from the surrounding Artane, Raheny, Coolock area a lot of us may have gone to the same school.

I went to Belcamp..and I know in my day a lot of the students there frequented the Grove. I first heard about it at school. We used to run a 5th years dance in the school and it was basically like a mini Grove..remember many's the night sliding the full length of the floor on my hunkers playing air guitar to Whole Lotta Rosie...hehehe...and we used to invite the girls from Our Lady of Mercy convent..or something like that...

Ard Scoil Ris - Mark Leddy, Mick Graham, Gavin Houle, Jason O' Donavan + brothers....basically anyone in Ard Scoil from Marino.

In the Alcove, Fran Kenny, Bernard & Paddy Coen, John Doody, Joan Farrelly, Gav Duffy, Trev Mc Kay, Kevin Whyms, Des Mc Elroy, Medder, Eddie Lyons, Moran twins, John Coughlin, Shiela Mc Morrow, Anne Maher, Ciara Donohoe......

Can't saya I know Emma or Berny...what year?

Hey Rolo, Yep I knew Kevin and Eddie. Actually ended up hanging around in College with Kev. Great Guitar player and front man...loved to show off playing guitar doing Jimi Hendrix impersonations playing with teeth, behind head etc. Lost touch with him after. Did he enter You're a Star or play in the  backing band??? (Surprised I missed him I'm a sucker for those stupid talent competitions).

Who's your little brother? I might know him as I knew a fair few of that gang.

LOL.....Kev mentioned in another thread, he would love to know we're all yapping about him....he wasn't exactly modest....any idea what he's up to these days? (or Eddie or Moran twins)...hey maybe you can identify which twin is in my photo in the Grove Pics thread. (I knew Declan a bit better) Also any idea if that was Kev Whyms in the photo on the Grove documentary....it looked like him but with the hair  we couldn't be sure.

Did your little bro have the same mad hair and a fondness for over large jumpers with stripes??? and in a band at one time called the heebie jeebies???

Hi Esthalon,

Reckon Kev would've had a similar head of hair round 88/89/90 'cos in our wedding photos in July 1989 he defo does.

Know he messed around in some band or other at the time, think they used busk on Grafton Street and play the odd gig in one of the pubs in Capel Street. Not sure if they even had a name but they really were total crap.

And BTW, not too impressed with being told he's the image of me !

You're probably right....pity the photos from the documentary (with names) weren't posted on the forum. Between the hair and the plastic bags it was a bit tricky identifying people.

I did manage a few definite ID's, John Coughlin (up a tree), Jeff Dowling (Up Tree), Carl Mc Shane (Plastic bag on head).

Also Georgina Gaffney & Brian Boland (Still together I hear) and Jason XXX (none of whom went to the Grove more than once or twice!!!

Now that I come to think of it Limewood was a Grove stronghold with Lar Lesley and all his gang, serious rockers

Sharon Casey is my sister who now lives here in Perth also. Haven't seen Carl for a while but have caught up with him a few times over the years here. This small world is starting to close in on me now, scary.......

Got it in one Donal, this site has thrown up so many mad coinidences over the time I've been involved, doesn't bear thinking about.

I don´t know the above girls or your sister but Celine used to walk home with a girl called Alison Hogan. She and two others came to Manor House from St Eithne´s..they were a Deirdre O Carroll and a Lorraine Cross..there was also another girl called Anne Marie Lambe and an Ann Brennan..what about a Gwen Hollingsworth and maybe a Sara Evers..all hit the Manor in my year from St Eithne´s as far as I can remember..would be Tonlegee and Woodbine ladies..

I went to St. Aidans on Collins Avenue. Still there, beside DCU, but the original school has been rebuilt. Well known past pupils include Bertie Ahern and Liam Brady. Bertie got one honour in his leaving which was in accountancy (he could really use it now !). Brady was expelled for playing soccer when he should have been playing GAA !

Hi V,

I went to O'Connell's. You guys were great neighbours, although I'd say I left school well before you.

Greendale may be closed-ish, but Michael Woods is claiming personal credit for keeping it in te hands of the department to be used for "educational purposes". Spot the election gimmick.

But, this morning found a photocopied newspaper article had been posted in the door rubishing the good doctor's claims, with plenty of quotes from the principal of Greendale, but also quoting Senator Liam fitzgerald. Who co-incidentally was unhappy at Woods not allowing a selection convention in dublin North-East.

Presumably not from that same source, but certainly some from of counter electioneering. Ah, the rough and tumble of political life.

Teresa,

So only getting back to you now was down in the sunny south east for a little break (missed a holiday to Spain got ill could not travel) but it all turned out well.

What were your sister in laws name ? I loved that school there was a fantastic encouraging atmosphere there ie everyone has a talent in some shape or form (regardless of how thick you were - it was a culture shock after Holy Faith)

Hope you are better - best regards to Irish Mamm - is she counting the days ?

The mention of B&R invokes memories of shorter skirts that the Dominicans allowed you guys

Teresa,

By the sounds of things I imagine they were way after me, just hope they have some good memories - Isnard (nun) from Kerry was there my time she was awfully awfully but a heart of gold and a great teacher.  She rang me years later to say she was in the Clontarf area & could she call?  Naturally, I said pop in for a cuppa.  She duly arrived, all in her cream garb, my 2 & half year old was drawing with markers at the time along with paint - guess the rest, she looked like Joseph & the amazing.........multicoloured - however, she took it really well.  Another one there was Celsius, for devillment we put an enormous bra in the oven towards end of term - she opened it to take out some cakes and couold not contain herself laughing.

At the time the whole ethos was - correction does much - encouragement does more - & boy did they encourage you. Dont know what it was like in later years, would have loved my girls to go there, but their friends were going to Manor Farm so off they went.

Went to one reunion it was a happy / sad occasion some really nice people very sad stories.  Only other contact was they asked me to give a chat on studying abroad which I did - the young people are great and so much more with it than we were.

Are you better?
