Hiya gang,

Just playing a bunch of my old Grove singles and I was
thinking that about 30 feckin' years ago I was with mates
in my old front room on Brookwood Avenue, having a few
beers, playing Grove music and chatting about girls and
just basically looking forward to the Grove on the Saturday
(and Sunday) night. I miss those days - did anyone else
get together with mates on the Friday night, looking
forward to the Grove weekend?

VJ,

We had many nights together as pals playing records or listening to cassettes and chatting about the Grove, girls, music and especially motorbikes and where we would head to next on the motorbikes.

No particular nights were agreed.

What was special in those days was the actual effort we all made to hang out together............in other words, call to each others houses.......no email, phones, texts in those days............you got up off your arse and walked or motorbiked around to you mates gaff

May be going to hell in a bucket but at least I'm enjoying the ride.

Back in my Grove days, I was given very little freedom and basically allowed out one night a week. Getting together on Friday night (often with a board game and a few tapes and whatnot) meant not being allowed out on the Saturday night. So, I either got the chat or the Grove.

Later, Friday became a big night once I started work - loved the high stoll and the first few beers early doors straight after work. Still miss that from time to time

Given a chance, I would still head out on a Friday rather than a Saturday - although these days the nights out are calmer!

I also loved a Thursday night out - straight home from football training (finished at 9 in Malahide), into the shower, grab a slice of bread and then into Tamangos for 10. And then up for work in the morning - hopefully followed by a Friday evening session straight after work.

Jayziz, I was young once.....

............weren't we all D .

After work Friday sessions were also a personal favourite of mine '86 - '91 ish.

Gaffney's at half five 'til late and then into town to Bad Bob's with whoever happened to show up to see whoever happened to be playing.

In the Grove days............nothing organised on the Friday, probably down the Park in the summer and in someone's gaff otherwise.

Mustn't have been particularly memorable though..........................

Then one Saturday night I met herself and the rest is history .

On Sundays we always went to evening mass at Derek Farrel's house.
His mother was a great cook.

Rolo- practically word for word  - except Bad Bobs could be Whelans - depending on who was playing.   Great times. Loved the pub after work on a Friday.

Notice most teens now do not sit and talk - all done elctronically either facebook or text.    I feel sorry for them - they seem quite isolated.  My youngfella does not visit friends unless they are going somewhere - all music is on an ipod so therefore there is no " listen to this bit of Guitar or brill drum solo"
Plus they really can't communicate with each other either...   Quite sad really.

Remember chasing Brontosauruses around with your club and you'd turn around to find all of your mates had left you alone and you had to high tail it back to your cave really fast before you were eaten.

Think most people gave up the tabs of acid after trips like that. LOL
