You are right Gerry- These are the tunes I was trying to play, and failed badly, back in 1967 when I got my first guitar. She's from Rory's hometown so must be in the air
This tune has a ring of Prodigal Son but she's even better than Keith - Hah not really Prodigal Son Vestapol

Two super tunes Sean - Stones did a lot of this stuff in their earlier days, and did it very well. Muireanns song has some similarities, beautifully played. Annette was listening in and she agrees with our assessments ...

When myself and Col were getting into music in a big way - we were 13/14/15 - we were big into the old American blues stuff - Big Bill Broonzy, Little Walter, etc etc. When we'd go to visit my sister in England we'd buy all this stuff. There was a record label - maybe Blue Note - that specialised in blues. You could maybe get that stuff ovef here as well but we didnt see it as much as in London. The records we had are long gone at this stage sadly. But it was a great introduction to authentic "traditional" music, albeit American style...

I think "Marble Arch" was the name of that label Gerry. An LP cost about 12 shillings when a regular charts topper cost around 1 pound two and six (1968ish -from memory?) As far as I can remember, there was really only one shop, beside O'Donoghue's Pub on Baggot Street to get them. Most of my early blues collection was bought there: All the classic blues and folk artists were featured...Besides all the Woody and Leabelly stuff there were albums like Dominic Behan sings with Ewan McColl records. They were in very unfancy cardboard sleeves. I did a search and can't find any reference online so might be wrong. Seems the label was an offshoot of Pye Records...directed at us cheapskate low-budget buyers. |

Had not heard of Melanie's passing either Pat. Brilliant singer and from her interviews was a nice person overall. RIP Melanie.

Lots and lots of interesting posts on the WhatsApp Grove Show- Near FM Forum from Brian and the gang, relating to Janice Ian. I remember when The Old Grey Whistle test came on the air - a breath of fresh air from the Top of The Pops/ Shindig, and the like shows. From reading back on You Tube I can't understand that John Peel is disliked by many, when he was THE pioneer in his day..not uhlike our own Cecil. Three of my favourites from those early days: David Bowie -Pretty things https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBgU0tiLy2s The best singer that ever lived IMHO Linda Thompson- A heart needs a Home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnP07s_O14Q Janis Ian- at 17 |

Yep Poguey - super choices there. Ralph McTell and Janis Ian both received awards this week, in Dublin, from some Irish awards thing...article in the Irish Times with picture of the two of them. Most of the article talked about McTell, about one sentence for Janis Ian ...

I'll forgive you Pat...but you know the link for the show will be there forever. Maybe even longer than forever. I'm going to ask Brian if he can put it in a time capsule and send it on the next mission to Mars.
