Pat,

You wouldn't want to drop one ....  it would be an awful expensive ooops!!

My dad has a bottle of whiskey which he won in an Irish Times crossword thingy about 12 years ago - There are more certificates and seals on the damn thing and no one in the house drinks - It's worth about €300 all we do is dust it and turn it over every few months.!!!  My mother suggested it could be used for the Christmas puddings !!!

Fawlty Towers has been voted the most iconic television comedy of all time. Almost a third of those polled voted for the sitcom. Only 12 episodes of the show were ever made.

Basil Fawlty was crowned Britain's favourite male television character, followed by wheeler dealer Del Boy.

Dawn French's character in The Vicar of Dibley was the most popular female character.

While the global credit crunch has forced many consumers to rein in their spending, one Chinese billionaire has paid a record £250,000 for 27 bottles of wine.

The London based Antique Wine Company said the anonymous entrepreneur has bought a mix of vintages.

He went for Romanee Conti, a burgundy wine considered the world's most exclusive with only 450 cases produced each year.

The buyer bought 12 bottles of Romanee Conti 1978, 2 bottles of the 1961,1966,1996 and 2003 and single bottles of other years from 1981 to 2002.

I read that scientists can control the brains of flies. They genetically modified the insects so a group of brain cells that control sexual behaviour could be switched on by a pulse of light, that made females exhibit male traits.

Don't think there's any plans to extend this to humans

There are more violent crime per head of population in Glasgow than in New York.

I'd say Dublin/Limerick probably ranks high in the crime stakes as well.

By the way -

Anyone who wants to record the History Channel Docu on Dublin - it is a " Last Chance" on Sky + so it won't be there for long.

Thanks again Brian - really enjoyed it.

Brian,

Just saw that thanks will record it for posterity.  By the way there was a docu on TG4 the other night about Charlie Kerins who was hanged in Kerry in relation to the shooting of a policeman - Kangaroo court convicted him.   Very interesting - If it is on again will post info.

thanks again Brian

I didn't know where to post this. I was up early this morning and watched a bit of TV before tackling the chores. On Sky Anytime there was a programme from the History Channel about underground Dublin. It showed clips about the River Poddle and the Vikings; Dowth, which is near Newgrange; St Michan's Church crypts: and the South Dublin Union Workhouse. Some inaccuracies e.g the Vikings came to Ireland in 800 BC duh and the Normans conquered the Vikings. Well worth a look.

The Monkees had a top five hit in 1967 called "Alternative Title".

It was originally called "Randy Scouse Git" but in those days could not be played with that title.
