Agreed Pat. Mind you, I think at a certain age, most of us have heard most of the jokes already ! Not necessarily a good thing admittedly !

Maybe I'm odd but I just don't get today's comedy programmes.

American trash mostly.

I loved Faulty Towers, George & Mildred, The Marx Brothers, Father Ted for example.

I get Mrs Brown's Boys. Think thats funny. Brendan gets away with some flack. Not an addict though.
May be going to hell in a bucket but at least I'm enjoying the ride.

Gerry, feel the same re tv.

Hardly ever watch tv during summer months.

Like you it's sport or news or the odd documentary.

I get more enjoyment from a good book or some classic music that I like.

Apropos couple things above Pat - I am astounded at that re the guillotine, I really am.

When the Simpsons appeared first they were a little 2 or 3 minute addendum at the end of some weekly show by, I think, Tracey Ullman or maybe Cindy Lauper? But they were totally anarchic, I'd never seen that humour before, knocked me for six, was just brilliant. But like everything, familiarity knocks the edge off everything, now I wouldn't be bothered watching it. I really only look at sports on TV, sometimes the news, the odd Prime Time or whatever, that about it.

This surprised me.

The last time the guillotine was used in France was as recent as 1977.

The Simpsons first aired in 1989 and the first James Bond film was Dr No.

I have never watched either the Simpsons or any James Bond films.πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

Further to the drop in pub numbers in Ireland it appears Cork is the worst hit county.

In other news, my musical boundaries are going to be expanded tomorrow! I am meeting some friends in town for lunch, and they tell me we are first going to some hour-long free opera event, in behind Wood Quay somewhere! My mind is suitably boggled! Build up a nice thirst I suppose ,πŸŽ©πŸ»πŸŽπŸŽΌπŸ‘ΈπŸ˜¬

The ploughing was held in Ratheniska, Pat, just on the outskirts of Stradbally, for three years up to and including 2016. Last year it was changed to a place called Screggans, closer to Tullamore, and same this year. Still in the general vicinity but the town wouldn't get quite the same benefits as when it was in Ratheniska...

I saw that all right Pat, kinda surprised by it. There are 5 pubs operating here in Stradbally which is a small place. Mind you, one of them is going great, another is doing well enough, the other three I don't know how they get by day-to-day. Although there are a few big annual events here, the vintage steam rally, EP of course, and some other things centred mainly around Stradbally Hall, so I guess they all get income from those events and even it out across the year or something...

I read there are 1477 fewer pubs in Ireland since 2005.

The guy who invented the plastic straw probably thought to himself –"Finally! a straw that can be reused over and over and over..."

And seemingly one of the worst-polluting plastic items is plastic straws - they cause all kinds of damage esp to marine life. Few places in town starting to use alternatives to plastic straws ... So no more drinking your Guinness through a straw lads

Oil is a key ingredient in the making of plastic.

Any wonder our oceans are becoming polluted.

Plastic as a disposable commodity to the general public should be banned outright worldwide.
