Lol! Again, this story not necessarily for this thread but you reminded me of it there Pat. Also, proves that Rolo was kinda guessing right in an earlier post :
There were 5 children in our family, 4 boys, I girl. My two older brothers and my sister (sadly, all now in the Grove in the sky ) were born and into their mid-teens, when some kind of error of judgement occurred - and I was the result . Given the others were in their teens, my folks reckoned I needed someone more my own age growing up - and so they decided to have my younger brother (the guy living in England) as a companion for me! So, any time he gets uppity, I remind him he wouldn't be around at all if it weren't for me True story, family lore (my folks never mentioned it to me, my sister told me after both my folks had passed away ) |

Sorry to hear of you losses RR. Maybe later in a different thread you can share your story. I have to say, until recently, I have been very lucky where attending funerals are concerned.

Thanks Pogue for your kind words of sympathy - just mundane stuff really:
- Bro 1 - died not much more than a baby, so none of us really knew him - Bro 2 - died 2005, cancer of the oesophagus, 60-a-day man since he was 16 - Sis - died last year (2017), undiagnosed ovarian cancer. That was not easy My da died 1962, heart attack; Ma died 2003, really of old age I suppose (was 85 but that's not real old I maybe) Meself and the bro in England are hanging in there by the fingernails Sure look, happens all of us eventually. I do have a belief that there is something "after" all of this - dunno what exactly - so that's a consolation. And, the best way to respect the memory of those gone is to live well, and to the full - I certainly try and live life "to the full" Now, above is a recitation of facts that's all, not to be bringin anyone down etc. As the man said, there are worse things than dying, and I know a few people in those kinds of boats, so I count me blessings ... |

Which reminds me, for some reason, of the following, often used by one of my mates:
"if me aunt had balls she'd be me uncle!" |

Lol, yeah things a bit confusing these days Pat - indeed, the "crazy/hot" matrix to which I directed a blushing Pogue, as part of his pre-marriage preparations, caters for some potentially ambiguous situations indeed

A man goes to the doctor to be circumcised. When he wakes up he notices that he has no balls. He says to the doctorβ "I wanted to be circumcised, not castrated" and the doctor says "Sorry, I keep mixin' them two words up"

Lol - reminds me of an absolutely true story, happened to a (Leaving Cert) schoolmate of mine. He went in to hospital for a small operation to lop off a bit of a growth in his forehead, as he is being wheeled down the surgeon appears, "are you the lad for the circumcision ..."
Luckily it ended well |

Hmmm. ... I kinda like this piece of poetic whimsy I've just come across:
"The Universe may Be as great as they say But it wouldn't be missed If it didn't exist" Makes you think |

And, further to the above:
"The Greek philosopher, Parmenides, said it is impossible to speak of what is not - thereby contradicting himself!" This quote, and the one in the previous post, are from an excellent little piece in today's Irish Times, page 10: "The Empty Set is nothing to worry about" |
