Last night, Jen and I learned of the very sad passing of Grover Paula O'Connor. Marion, Letitia and Sinead have asked that we dedicate their show  tomorrow night to Paula. Paula and her husband Dermot were twice guests on the show and also many of you would have met her at the reunions or gigs over the years.

Hi All, I am covering a slot on the bank holiday tomorrow on Near FM from 12-2 pm Irish Time. With Slane concerts returning next week for the first time since 2019, the playlist will be based on concerts at Slane Castle 1981 to 2019. Looking for any Slane memories folks have if you went to any of the concerts there over the years. PLease post below and  will look to read out between songs. Not a Grove Show but plenty of Grove bands/songs in scope here. Show will be live, but will share link for playback after also if anyone wants to listen back. Thanks a mil.

Hi Brian, I was st most Slane gigs in the 80s and 90s. I remember the Stones in 1982, being sprayed with water by Jagger. We were so far at the front we were nearly under the stage and had to move back a bit to see the show! 4 of us drove there in my trusty old VW Beetle "ZIP" (from the reg). Got back to St. Annes about 5 in the morning. Next day - ZIP wouldnt start and never started again after that, sold it for scrap! The effect the Stones had on it maybe!!!

Also getting sunburned at the iconic Springsteen gig - a glorious day, weather wise and every other way...

The disastrous rain at the Queen gig - deluges and made the ground really dangerous. My brother walked put of his shoes with the muck, didnt bother trying to find them...

Bowies Glass spider gig - strange.
Guns and Roses - heaviest, crankiest security I ever experienved in Slane, couldnt walk down tge main street without being hassled by security guys.
Neil Young, REM, etc etc.
I wasnt into Dylan in those days so didnt go to his gig / the only time there was real bovver in Slane around a gig!!!

Great days, great artistes, great music, times of our lives...

Sorry I couldn't listen in.

Thanks for the mention on the Rolling Stones track.

You did a great job on creating this show and selecting all those tracks πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸŽΆπŸŽΆπŸŽΆ

Thanks Gerry and Pat.

This one required a fair bit of research but some great bands played over the years so makes it easier to choose the playlist. The memories really make it though so thanks again. Got some great stories I didnt get time to read out. An iconic venue with some great days out, but also difficult to access to and from. Crowd sizes seemed to vary 70 - 110k. Weather a big factor too as wih all festivals.
