Hey all, I always remember the old Sunday nights down the Grove (80-86 anyway) between 9-10(?) and all the gang bringing down their albums for Cecil to play and everyone headbanging in a big circle. The thing is, I can only really remember a handful of albums that used to be played - what I remember most was Sabotage by Black Sabbath, Tokyo Tapes by the Scorpions, Presence by Zeppelin (Achilles last stand?), "Highway to Hell"? and, later, "Come and get it" by Whitesnake. There must be loads more "regular" albums played but I cant think of them...what album do you guys remember from the "pre-grove" headbang days?? Mel. |

In 1972-1974 it was Hello - Status Quo Every Picture Tells A Story and Never A Dull Moment by Rod Stewart Pendulum - Creedence (for me once) |

88-90, I remember it used to be Metallica (Kill 'Em All or Ride the Lightning). Also remember a mate of mine bringing down Fields of the Nephilim's @The Nephilim album. The first side got played until someone highjacked the turntables. Actually, Cecil used to give a free hand during the headbangin hour - he was usually up that ladder in the attic looking for something. |

The Cars first album, thats right - I think Cecil stuck that one on (and presumably Joe Jackson too) when he didnt have any 'requests' from the regular crew!

Don't remember much except for maybe Metallica. One would be song of them that I remember from back then. But most of my memory would be sitting in the circle waiting for the Smiths or Mission or something decent to come on!

Wasn't that a regular on Sat nights as well? From 9:00 on if you got in first he'd spin your LP. Gave him Pink Floyd's Relics one week and he was delighted! The headbangers weren't too keen though...

Hee, hee Martin, have the 7" single in the collection - its a 3 track EP with "two pints of lager and a packet of crisps" on side A and "Simon Templar" and "Michael Booths talking bum"(!!) on side B. The band was/is (wait for it) Splodgenessabounds...good 'novelty' song for parties

Yeah, I believe it was on Saturdays too Martin, but we tended to get down slightly later on Saturday after a few beers etc., and missed it, often arriving as the first few singles rang out. Sunday nights were different as things didnt start until later, with the slightly older crowd, nobody really got down until around 10pm - good craic the old rock circle - remember one night there must have been about 20-25 in a big circle for the "come and get it" album by Whitesnake - Fool for your loving, Dont break my heart again...etc., happy days |

Never brought one down ,Mel but I remember seeing the guys walking in with them when the hall was empty. Cecil obliged and , when the circle was formed, the headbanging and air guitars would commence. Do you remember when some used to sit on the floor crosslegged and headbanging...especially on Sundays? |

Yeah, absolutely Mary! I think I kinda preferred the Sunday nights, in some respects. Very informal set-up, everyone sorta knew one another.

Yeah ...me too. Lots more space on a Sunday night and a slightly older crowd which always made us feel we were now 'veterans' of some sort. You're right...the informal set-up and the feeling of knowing everyone.....sounds like Friday night in O'Sheas again. |

Fair play Mel, you are determined to keep this thread live. I only ever brought one album down for him to play - it was "Just A Game" by Triumph. Still love that album - I have it on vinyl and occasionally give it a spin |

Magazine..........The Correct Use of Soap, as alluded to in the other thread, Took me about 6 months to persuade Cecil to play it 'cos he reasoned that the regulars wouldn't be interested in that type of sound. He was right but I didn't give a Monkey's |
