RTE Documentary

Hi everyone, this is my first posting !

Saw the RTE Documentary last night, and have to admit was close to tears. My own years were 88 - 92, but it just brought it all back. I was moved by Cecil and his open display of emotion upon assuming the position on stage after nearly 10 years. You have to admire him. He was the Irish John Peel for Northsiders. Where else would you hear that music ? And he did that for 30 years, week in week out. Just an ordinary bloke with a sixth sense for teenage kicks.

The Documentary was very very good overall. Never mind Ray D'Arcy - we all know what it meant to be a Grovehead - more than a feeling !

No, but some of my current friends mine did - they are from Donaghmede and would have been palefaced back then too (we're a bit more grown up now!).

I'm a Glasnevin girl (near DCU) but went to Ballymun Comp until '89, then Beneavin College to repeat Leaving ('90), then went to Kevin St college - '90 onwards. But I went to the Grove with friends that I grew up with here and none were of them were into the music - they liked a lot a good mix of music though - same as myself really..

I did go to the Pierrot on one occassion to put posters up to advertise a club night that I organised in McGonagles back in '92. It was full of scumbags though but I think I got the wrong day as one of the mates said it was a big hang out.

I used to hang around Grafton St (outside HMV) instead! Plus by the time I was 18 ('90) I was going to the Olympic, Fetish, Bruxelles, Bartley's & William Tell!  I was at The Mission 2 days after my 18th in SFX. Was anyone else there?!

Looking back now, I really do miss the Grove, Olympic, Bartley's, Old Foggy Dew & William Tell..

What area are you from? What school did you go to?

Btw one of the fellow friends said to me at the April re-union that he didn't recognise anyone from back then.

Now to be honest I did, but I think it was from gigs (Wedding Present, House Of Love - anyone?) rather than from the Grove..

Absolutely on the Grove.

One of my friends that is from Donaghemede is called Mark but he wasn't in a band. His mate is Ger Egan ex This Burning Effigy though! There's also Tony Malloy & Paul Fitzpatrick.

I'll be at the reunion with Mark, Tony, Paul and Tony's girlfriend Sarah.

Paul was a massive Curehead - still is to be honest. I think himself and Tony got a few records from Cecil. The lads were all in the Perriot.

We probably know each other to see.

Sister 1 - I meant to add and speaking of the Nephs. Did you get Carl's last album Morning Star that was released this year? If you didn't, it's a grower. Classic Carl, so mix of old with bit of new, but mostly like Elzium..

Also remembered - Johnny Maher and he's also from the Donaghmede area and a bud of an ex of mine.

There was loads of goff bands knocking about in the early 90's - House of Byron, Babylon The Bride etc. Eamo the singer of the bride was also another mate of Johnny Maher but more from Finglas.. I'd say Eamo was a Grover.

I posted to boards.ie & thumped.com about a yr or so ago looking for info on some of these bands..

Perhaps I should have posted here too!

Anyhow I'm outta here now - knackered after being stuck here for 3 nights running!
