Is there anyone who remembers the old grove from 1967 -1972

I wanted to bring this up as a few of you were asking if there was anyone from the old grove well Frank is - so Frank come on in and talk we would love to hear what your grove years were like.

Too true...
I had good friends who were Mods..one who used to wear his Parka to the Grove....and I don't recall him ever getting any hassle. I could be wrong..but I think that if I had gone to Bubbles in my combat with AC/DC and Zeppelin patches I'm not so sure it would have been so easy...At any time there were Metalheads, cureheads, Goths, Punks, hippies, folkies, Mods, Rudeboys, New Romantics etc at the Grove. It didn't matter...cos good music..is good music. I'd listen to Depeche Mode or the Cult or Joy Divison or Motorhead with equal relish.....

Add "On the road again" by Canned Heat.

Not sure I heard Grateful Dead which as you can see I have taken a line from one of their songs as my signature. May have played "Truckin'" but I can't say for sure.

Re Donovan.......not sure ..........but it was out in 1966 and am sure it would have been played from 1967 on when the Grove first started.

It's a classic and Bulmers were quick to catch on to it's hippy summer sound for this years add.

If I say so myself Speaking of Grove songs which ended up being used in various advert campaigns... I'd say a lot of folks would agree that whoever decided to use "Man of the world" by Fleetwood Mac for a very graphic and shocking road safety campaign video in Ireland has probably ruined a generations enjoyment of that track ....

Yeah, hard to play that song now without thinking of that graphic advertisment.

IanL, agree totally with you about "Man of the World"/ad campaign.  Used to love that track (s'pose I still love it) but its hard to play it 'post-ad'.

Pat, Cecil still played "Hello" pre-Grove when I was going down - great stuff, I've lots of time for Quo.  Admittedly, he didnt play it regularly as other heavier albums took precedence often but it was always great to hear it when he played it.

Of course Queen really stole the show though, I thought..

Pat - maybe this is a childhood story thread anecdote
but you just reminded me that my father (who had
an optician practice on the Quays) once gave a pair
of specs to a guy and the guy took a "test drive"
with them by walking the Quay. My father was fine
with him trying them as he knew this chaps family,etc
and new he wasn't going to run away with them.
Anyway.. the glasses test driver decided to lean his
head over the Liffey and apparently the specs
took part in an unofficial "Liffey descent".
He came back all red faced to my father ...
I'm sure those specs have barnacles on them by now.

Re: 1967-72

I noticed in recent days that Jefferson Airplane's
"White Rabbit" is being used on a TV commercial
(trying to remember which one ... very atmospheric
track !!)

Someone in an earlier thread mentioned it was on
Cecil's original 67-72 era playlist.
