Boys and Girls........
I know that there has been some discussion about the welcome return of Radio Nova to the air. As some of you may know the legend that is Pat James has a show on Sunday nights.
It was Pat that kicked off my interest in the music when I was about 13/14 as he had a lateish show on Radio Dublin which I listened to religiously every night under the covers when I was supposed to be asleep in me scratcher.
Here's what he sent me !
Hi Rolo I have only just logged on to the site as i usually just browse as a visitor. But I thought I would let you guys know that I am once again back on the air. The show is called "OFF THE RECORD" and it airs on RADIO NOVA 100 on Sunday Nights start time is 10 pm till 1am. Usual mix of sounds but would love to hear from the GROVE community re tracks or bands they would like to hear. The show is unplaylisted so nearly anything goes(well almost) Not being well up on the posting side of things i'll leave it with you but if you could post the news up you would have my thanks.
My email address at Nova is pat.james@nova.ie but at the moment its not online.but as soon as its up i will give you a shout..Really like visiting the site love all the posts on Music Biker Pat sounds like a guy i could have a long chat to.
So Cheers and Thanks,
Pat J.

Listening to Nova a lot this week. Great classic tracks.
When a track comes on I don't like (not often) then I flick over the Phantom. Gives me a chance to keep up with new rock and indie stuff.
Just realised that I haven't listened to any other channel besides those two in the last week.
Will make a point of listening to Pat James. He was part of the holy trinity that shaped my musical taste. (Cecil Nolan, Pat James, OGWT)

I have been listening to Radio Nova non-stop since they started last week.
It's brilliant!! Most of the music they play bring me back thirty years when I was going to the Grove.
You can't beat a good Grove song!!!!

Wow! I saw last week that Pat James was back with Nova but I didnt realise he checked out this site. Fantastic that he's looking for Grove "requests" from us lot. Any chance he could have Cecil in studio with him one night as a "special guest".
Anyone remember the track he used to use as an "into" track on his old Radio Dublin show? I think it was a track by "The Pirates" but I cant remember what it was called.
Welcome back Pat (and thanks for sharing, Rolo!).

Wonder what that Pirates track is?
I got an album they made in 1977, a classic, and wonder if it's on there.

Hi Pat,
Been trying to email you but you ain't set up yet.
Also just off the phone from Cecil Nolan and he said he'll be listening in to Nova.
Vinyl is still my favourite mode of music. Still have my vinyl collection as do many others on this site.
Of course with the passage of time CD's are also needed.
Anyway, hope you enjoy here.
The members here are really greats folks, and "we got one thing in common", we got The Grove in our souls

Just on Dave Fanning - I've always liked his shows but wished he would not interupt when interviewing and ask such long winded questions. Interesting, his autobigraphy is out in a few weeks and I think it could be quite an interesting read.

Listening to Nova a lot.
Have to say am very impressed by thier music selection.
A lot of it reflects my own taste over the years and that can't be bad
However I hope they don't fall into the Rock 104 trap of the late 80's/early 90's where advertisment demands or whatever meant they started moving away from rock music and are now FM 104 and are rubbish.
Since Nova came on air I am listening to more radio than I have done for years.

I hope so to Biker Pat.... I thnk its a great station but they seem to play the same selection songs during the day, I find listening to Nova in the evening the selection changes and a lot more gritter, I heard Freebird twice in 2 days on Nova and yes its a great song rarely played in full on radio, but I hope Nova don't "overplay" it or other songs, if you know what I am trying to say ... The Classic albums in the evening are great but its a limited lifespan before they repeat albums which I won't mind. Pat James show I have enjoyed to)and not just saying it because he logs in here ) because its not playing just the "favourite classc" tracks...

Rock on BR,
Am with you man
Not listening every day myself but what I have heard is pretty good.
Danger here is they start clapping thmeselves on the back and lose sight of what I hope is their objective, playing decent music on the radio, God knows we need it.
And there is no doubt there is an audience for classic rock music.
Cecil is the example to be followed. He could play great music without blowing his trumpet.............

I am enjoying Nova similar to several posts on here. I tend to listen on the way home from work in the car which would be usually 6-7 pm. Tommy Walsh (Pugwash and Duckworth Lewis Method) is on then.
I worked late last Thursday night and on the way home they played two Grove classics in a row - Sanctuary and Paranoid. Great stuff - a long time since I heard either on the radio and certainly not back to back!

Usually get to tune in when I'm passing the Beehive on the N11,but lose it further south.
Fab station alright. It's killing me that they're giving away Roger Waters tickets every day!.

Trick or Treating finished (whatever happened to "Help the
Halloween Party")?. Nova sound good tonight, as always.
We really should consider a permanent link to that station
from here.
Edit: Hotel California now - great Halloween theme tonight. Love it.
Edit 2: "Sympathy for the Devil" playing now - a few beers on board - dammit, is the Grove on tonight!?

Hiya Rainey J,
I think Rolo has been in touch with Pat James on Nova a few times by e-mail and Pat himself posts on the site too. Perhaps send a private message on here to Pat?
Edit: Paul posts under the username "Hairy". He doesnt post too often but he does post.

Love their 'Stories from the Deep End' (no-not an album title) where Nova picks a song and tells the story behind it.
Today was Stevie Nicks Edge of Seventeen, where, during recording Stop Draggin my Heart Around with Tom Petty, she asked Petty's wife when they met,and she replied in her southern accent, 'at the age of seventeen' but Stevie mistook this as a place.
The song of course followed, which, when driving,is pure class.

I was playing Grand Theft Auto IV (as you do) a half an
hour ago and, when you're driving around in the cars, you
can change the radio stations and real songs get played. I
changed the station to "Liberty Rock Radio" and Edge of
Seventeen was blaring out whilst I was driving around
Liberty City. Gas game.

after his legendary battle with the Balrog in the Chamber of Mazarbul, Gandalf left Moria for Miami. There he used the hotwire spell on a V8 Chevvy, switched on Radio Nova and headed off to the coast for some rest and revenge.....
