It's 2007! Happy New Year to one and all!

It's also 40 years since The Grove Social Club first opened it's doors to the teenagers of the northside of Dublin. So in honour of this, we, at www.thegrovesocialclub.com, feel that it is appropriate to mark the occassion with an anniversary reunion. We intend it to be a grand affair, bigger, better and longer than any of the previous reunions. With all profit going to charity.

So, we're on the hunt for a bigger venue with a late bar license, 2:30am preferably. Any suggestions?

Provisionally planned to happen around Easter - for all those who feel the urge to book time off, flights, baby-sitters etc...

I'm not even supposed to be here today!

Hi everyone...

I think it should be in St Pauls with the tanking up if necessary, done beforehand...the Annes´s, the Nep whatever.....
I actually thought, as I stood at the rear of the hall in the Sheiling on the 27th that " this would work sooooo much better if in Pauls"..

I mean where else can you get the Alcove feeling for those of us who need the fix ???
I instinctively headed down the back of the hall on the 27th looking for something that I couldn´t find.

Yes, 2007..lets make it a Grove to remember.

ME ( knackered, wrecked, home at last....zzzzzzzzzz)

I had fleeces, t-shirts and polo shirts made by a crowd up North before - if nobody can suggest anyone better/more local I can get in touch with them again.

Crusty and Killian - try these. http://www.spreadshirt.net/

The club I dj use these for our merchandise, which we get made up at cost - no profit as we are a non profit organisation. Browse at our options! www.dominiondublin.spreadshirt.net

The deal is you supply the logo etc and they'll print it. Delivery isn't too bad either.. And you get notified when people buy goods but I don't think you are given addresses of the purchasers. If you add a few squid onto the cost to make profit (optional) your bank balance will increase etc.

Not sure if you can take a design out of the range - I think you can, going by what my colleagues done. Quality is good - I've a t-shirt and shopping bag. Other colleagues got the hoodies and the messenger bags.
Don't ask me about the tongs - I don't have them and I don't know who's buying.

I had suggested St. Paul's a few months back but Cecil wasn't too keen as he thought that without the alcohol you wouldn't have the punters. Leave it with me and I'll look into it!

Is there any way around the alcohol by having a wine reception type thing or make it a private function and have kegs? Someone out there must know their licensing laws!  St Pauls would be magic - if there was any sort of alcohol people would go and if it was for charity the school should be interested - good publicity and all that.

The need for the venue being St Pauls might just be greater than the need for a licensed venue...let the masses decide, cast their opinions and vote here.

It is all down to what is important and what is not for the 40th Anniversary. For me, I don´t need a beer to enjoy myself and if I did I would take one beforehand like the good old days !!!. That is just me...

What does everyone else think ??????

Tickets would need to be more expensive to pay for the booze as I believe that the law concerns selling it rather than giving it out.
It would also give rise to people whinging because the ticket was say €50 yet they only had a glass of coke whereas someone else had 15 pints.

If you were guaranteed the weather you could have "The 40th Anniversary Grove Barby"... Set it all up outside with a big marquee.  I think it would be a great big open air event with stage and special guests.  All done in the name of charity I think it could be really fantastic, special appearance by U2.

Killian....I hear what you are saying about the price of the tickets and some people moaning, but if the tickets were 50euro or thereabouts you would only get the true loyal ex grove people going and none of the  20yr old kids that seem to appear at the reunions in the Shieling. And most people will agree that we don't need drink to enjoy ourselves...if some people do, then they can have a drink before hand.....or sneek it it just like the good ol days

Hmm, maybe I can convince my folks to let me spend the early evening in the ould front room, scoffing a few beers in the house on Brookwood Avenue.  Then again, a pre-Grove pint in some Raheny or Killester watering hole would also be cool..or, of course, the Park...
