Below an article I found that might interest all wannabe guitarists" Let's rock: air guitar that plays music Tuesday Nov 14 11:36 AEDT The dreams of rock-and-roll wannabes across the world have been answered with the development of the world's first air guitar that actually plays music. Scientists from Australia's CSIRO have embedded a sensor interface into an ordinary looking shirt to build the imaginary instrument. The wearer positions his or her arms as if holding a guitar, picks chords with one hand and strums the notional instrument with the other. Sensors pick up the movements and relay them back wirelessly to a computer which acts as a speaker. Engineer Richard Helmer said the technology was easy to use and allowed anyone, even without music or computing skills, to be an artist. "It allows you to jump around and the sound generated is just like an original MP3," Dr Helmer said. The technology has been trialled on other instruments allowing an entire air band to be formed with air bass guitar, air drums and even air tamborine. "The technology - which is adaptable to almost any kind of apparel - takes clothing beyond its traditional role of protection and fashion into the realms of entertainment and a wide range of other applications including the development of clothes which will be able to monitor physiological changes," he said. The development was a collaboration between researchers in computing, chemistry, electronics, music composition and textile manufacture banded together for the project which it is hoped will have applications for the sporting and health sectors. Dr Helmer said sensors could be used in the future to reproduce a person in the virtual world so they could get feedback on their actions and improve their sporting techniques. A possible invention was a physiotherapy device which tracked postures and exercises. CSIRO has released a video of Dr Helmer belting out a rock tune in a demonstration of the air guitar. He crouches over the imaginary instrument, holds it above his head and kicks his legs out in time to the music as a finale. The video is available at www.scienceimage.csiro.au/mediarelease/air_guitar.html |

Blondie, If we all got one we'd probably all play different songs on it at the same time. |
